Hey just wondering if anyone has ventured out to George Lake this year? Thought it would be nice to quad in from the south cause so little snow.

Someone has to be first @), But I really would doubt that it will be you.

As a snowmobiler, Man do I hate it when quads rip up the trail making ruts that cause my skis to dart, OK I vented ;)

I haven't gone this year yet, but I usually go in by ATV from Point du Bois, the parking lot by the campground is the starting point, then follow the hydro line down to the river, cross the river and there is a marked trail (a little south of where the hydro lines on the opposite side of the river) that takes you into George and if you want you can go straight across George into Forbes.  There's a lot of sled traffic in these lakes so the snow on the "trail" is usually packed down pretty good, and even so I've never had trouble rolling around the lake because of depth of snow.  Slush on the other hand was pretty bad last year, felt like driving thru wet cement.

And as far as driving on groomed sled trails & this is straight from a CO mouth, you are allowed to travel any groomed sled trail by ATV when going from or getting into backwater lakes.  Sled trails are not intended to ban a person access to a lake if you do not have a snowmobile and are traveling by ATV.  Once you get outta the bush and onto a lake, you must get off the groomed sled trail immediately.

Hmmm, if I hold the computer's mouse to my ear I can hear the ocean, um I mean the pissed off sledders typing their responses on their keyboards   ;D

i was on george lake on dec. 18. we set up our ice shack fished all morning and hunted in the afternoon.  the fishing was awsome you could put your car keys on the line and you would catch.  we went out on dec. 26 again the fishing was awsome, we just fished out of the shack no moving around it was the best.  My inlaws went on thursday dec.29 again the fishing was awsome.  there was about 12" of ice but there should be more by now.
