First perch
« on: Dec 16, 2011, 11:52 AM »
got my first perch of the season, went out with HooknHunter and Icehogger, I came home with 10, HnH got 9, and I think IH got 8 so not too bad for the first trip of the season for me, cascade has generally about 6" of ice some place's alittle thinker.... here's a pic in my garage.... average fish, got one that went 13 1/2", two that were 13" and the rest under that.....

Very nice indeed. One of these days, if even out of pure luck, I will stumble upon the way you guys consistently catch good numbers of large perch. I seem to work really hard for two or three. But it beats being in town.

Nice pic Duckslayer! Had a great time with you and Hooknhunter yesterday. Great to meet Shredder and Fshnnut and his buddy up there.

Poison has a good 7" of solid, hard, clear ice...and I do mean CLEAR!!! Slick as snot on a brass doorknob, right Duckslayer? Sugar loaf has 5"-6"....

Great day yesterday,,,my second time up there, neener-neener, LOL ;D

Hey Tony,
Nightcrawlers tipped on ice jigs, jiggin raps or just on a hook. Hooknhunter and Duckslayer had some success with their baits jiggin. I'm a kick back, deadstick kinda guy. I would bounce the rods in the Jigger Totter ice rod holders and occasionally that would draw them in.

Second trip to Cascade and a good 4 hours of action before the bite slowed. Had about the same success with cutbait vs. crawlers.

Hey Hogger, nice to meet you as well, Icefishinnut's buddy here. Did you guys get much of a bite in the afternoon? We had good luck in the morning then hit a pretty good lull midday. We normally stay out there a bit later in the day but had to get back to Boise for a christmas party.

Hey magni,
First of all welcome to the shanty! Yeah, we really picked up on the action all the way til dark. That's going to be the plan for several trips this season...sun-up to sun-down. Nice meeting you up there...

IH and DS.  Thanks for going fishing with me.  I had a blast.  Incidentally, I ate some of those perch last night, PML style, and it was excellent.  So good, in fact, that I am going to have it again tonight. :)

Hey icehogger....icefishin gnut here.  It was nice to meet you up at Poison Creek last week.  I figured we would eventually run into each other at some point.  I saw your reply to my buddy magni and was curious if you had to do anything different to get the fish going in the afternoon.  We have fished Poison Creek quite a bit over the past few years and have never done very well during the late afternoon and early evening out there.  Do you have any plans to be out there in the near future?  I am hoping to head up a couple of times over the next week so maybe I'll see you up there again.  Does Tackle Tom's still have some of your Jigger Totters?  I was thinking about stopping in and getting a couple.  Also wanted to share that a buddy was up there recently (not sure the day) and said they picked up 6 big perch.  He failed to give me a size on his phone message so I'm sure they were around 9"...ha ha!  Good luck everyone and hope to see you out there!

Hey icefishingnut,

Great to meet you up there too! You'd have to Tackle Tom to see if he still has any. I'm pretty sure he may. Remember, they are being sold at Sportsman's Warehouse in Meridian as well. We didn't do anything different from when you guys stopped and talked to us, except move about 75yds out further than you were. I had a buddy text me as well about 6 fish over 14" and 20 more nice keepers....hmmm...wond er if it was the same guy.

As far as getting back up there...hoping this sat, but, since it's one of my daughter's b'day, more realistically next fri. Anyway, sure we'll meet up there again. I hope so anyway. Hoping you and your family have a Merry Christmas....

Hey Chief,

I'm really partial to Poison Creek, especially with this rain and warm weather. Probably be up there both days...I'll fly the "Shanty" Flag so you know what to look for...

Just keep an eye on here, Tony. Alot of us in the area are sharing tips. I go out from the boat ramp, slight off to the right, anywhere from 75-200yds. Gets you on the channel and past it to a huge flat.

I was up there today...got one squawfish and soaked to the bone in less than 3hrs. Too miserable even for an old fart like me. Going back up on Tues...
