What species are you targeting, and what do you consider "upstate"?

Google Earth Chaumont Bay, NY, it's a BIG tributary of Lake Ontario and I'm 5 minutes away.

Pike, Walleyes, Perch, you name it.  It's all here.

There's one small one in Chaumont, 2 good restaurants in town, and in Watertown (13 miles away) there's a few dozen hotels.

Mid January through end of March is a good time.

The hotel in chaumont was cheap too, I think it was like 50 bucks or something. The fishing is great if you get on them. It is over a hour drive I hate when I can't find them.  >:(

Duck Away Motel, owners names are Sandy and Chuck. Phone number is 315 649 2535. Rooms are 50 a night, or they were last year, just simple rooms, but the owners are very nice indeed in accommodating you.

If you don't mind fishing the Guffin bay side they rent shanties and have an ice taxi at Guffin bay resort as well. Bryan and Kim also very good people as well. Very accommodating, good perch fishing we had on that side last year.

Greg at the hardware store is good stuff too, very accommodating, and has everything you need. Even things you don't with a full hardware store and all the bait you will ever need up there. Plus he is an IS sponsor. He will send you in the right direction as well.

Id have to agree with Esox you'll be hard pressed to find any place better for bigger and qty of fish you can catch than Chaumont
A good day fishing inst complete unless it's spent with family or friends.

Want to give me a guided tour this year?  Where a bouts on the bay would you target walleye?  What kind of structure/depth/etc.?  Never mind - just put me on 'em and I'll help you out on Black Lake sometime.

Anytime, just PM me and we'll schedule something.

Where for walleye?  Got a couple dozen spots, some for night fishing, but many are taken in broad daylight, even during the midday hours.

Structure/depth?  Rockpiles, rocky flats, weedbeds, anywhere from 10-40 FOW.
