Last year used Mono on my jigging rods and Power pro green on my tip ups. This year using "ice" specific lines all the way.

Yes DL I did get the orange 832 ice and yes I did use the 832 on softwater last year and loved it as well.
thanks jigsup - can you notice a difference between them?

They haven't made Sufix 832 in orange.  The orange braid is the previous line called Sufix Performance Ice Braid.  Sufix 832 Ice is only available in Canada in neon green at this point.

good to know - i checked out that rapala catalog link you posted Jeff - specifically the suffix ice line page.  Honestly, I couldn't really see a difference between them (listed features, diameter, etc) other than a different composition of 'thread' material.

The Sufix 832 Ice braid is definitely superior to the Sufix Performance Ice Braid.

832 is an 8 carrier braid (ie 8 strands in the braid) where the Performance Braid has 6.
832 has a tighter weave.  (32 weaves per inch) which creates a significantly smoother line.
832 has the Gore-text super fibre.

Just run it through your fingers and you can immediately feel the difference.

I hope this helps,

Jeff

Jeff - thanks again, I appreciate the details.  Now, Mr. Wizard...what's the difference between suffix 832 ice (neon green?) and 832 softwater (which I love, but seems to freeze up pretty bad).

I believe that the 832 ice braid is specifically formulated to reduce moisture retention, ie reduce freezing.

I will try to get you a more official answer on that though.

Here is a pic of my Quinte jigging setup with the Sufix 832 braid on it and Sufix Fluorocarbon leader.  Since the 832 ice braid is new, I have not tried it on the hardwater yet.  I did try the braid and ice fuse last year and was very happy with them both.  Just from what I seen from the 832 this past softwater season and feeling the 832 ice line in my hands, I believe it will be even better.

I will say though, if I am fishing outside, the Sufix Magic Ice Mono was my choice last year.  What I found is that for a mono it seemed more sensitive than other mono lines that I had used in the past.  Almost like a fluorocarbon line, yet was very manageable in the cold.  I fish with a few braid and a few mono rods now.

WOW, after all this info not much for me to add except didn't really know what colour it is just that I know I bought the 832 ICE. We will see how it fares, i'm sure it will be great.

thanks again for the info - nice looking combo you got there Jeff.  Hoep to see you out on the bay this winter!

I'm thinking of spooling 832 ice line on my deeper rods (walleye/lakers) and probably mono/flouro on the shallower rods....I spend a lot of time running and gunning and iced up line is a big concern for me.
