St. Lawrence County
« on: Dec 05, 2011, 05:12 PM »
Looking for some good lakes to hit for walleyes and crappie this winter in St. Lawrence County.  As a student from out of the area, I have not fished the area in winter.  DEC site says Norwood Res. has both.  Any Suggestions?

i wouldnt maste my time on norwood pond. but thats just me. theres only one system worth fishing if you want big walleyes, like truly trophy walleyes.

Yep, that's the downfall about releasing honey holes. Loose lips sink ships. For every one person you tell that's 10 walleye off your ice end total! But..... since I'm new to the area up here if you could just send me gps cords and set up info I swear I wont tell anybody...... ;) :icefish:

Grew up in gouverneur, still fish black lake alot, Pleasant lake is great for tons of 20-24 inch runners all day, not alot of big pike though, being from the area I would recomend Black Lake or Muskellounge Lake if you know someone that can get you on. Cranberry also if you go more towards the river entrance and down towards the ranger school.

self proclaimed experts? ive never met anybody on this website who claimed to be anything of the sort. also, pleasant lake, a sleeper for huge fish? thats laughable. try coles creek or wheathouse bay or hawkins point early early ice for big walleyes. not very farmiliar with black lake but i hear its pretty good

your definitely right about hawkins. the current is funny there.. even when its good and frozen there are certain pockets that dont freeze right. but it has produced some good walleyes and ive caught a couple sturgeon on tip ups down there too

Hey just kidding bout the self proclaimed experts. You guys all seem like real pro's thanks for the info. I still plan to hit lake pleasant when does it usually get safe ice? Or how long does it have to be cold to get good ice there?

seems it will be later this year than most, as its been unseasonably warm. early/mid january if you keep your fingers crossed.

EVERYTHING will be later this year.  I actually have just set a date of Jan. 31st and Feb 1st for a 2 day(all day) walleye/perch assult with several guys.  I picked that date in hopes there will be enough ice!
