Question on Causey Res.
« on: Dec 31, 2011, 12:22 PM »
Anybody know if Causey Reservoir is accessible without 4WD?

I was thinking of taking a crack at Kokanee and/or Splake (neither of which I ever caught before)... plus it sounds like there is plenty of ice.

Never been there before so I have no idea of what the access road conditions are.

Access to causey should be good, especially this year with no snow.

You should have no prob gettin up there in a car. The only prob with fishin causey is walkin back up the dam after fishin. I usually pack as lite as possible when fishing there. I went up there 2 wks ago and fished right by the spillway between 4 of us only managed 1 tiger and believe it or not my buddy got a sculpin or what we always called them a bullhead. Used to fork them on the river then use them for bait. Them kokes can be tough up there. If you got a power auger I would drill a few holes and do some hoppin. Did see on another site a guy had a 17" which is a nice koke. Looked like he was fishin the causey estates arm. I have had friends doing pretty good in the back at the split less pressure (longer walk) and bigger size class of fish back there, no kokes just tigers. Good luck

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

I'm still trying to get a feel for how long a drive all of these lakes are from home (Sandy). Utah Lake is the closest by far - but I have a feeling the ice there has gone to crap in this warm-up. Deer Creek is next, but showing no signs of icing over. Many others look close on a map... until you factor in the topography!  ;D

I thought I would take a run to Causey, and if it looks menacing I could drop back to Pineview for some panfish.

Always a good call with them being so close. For me the only ice I dare walk on at the view was in port ramp and you can park right next to it, very little walkin. Has had a lot of pressure there. Don't forget the boot chains!

Nothing new to the sled for 2012... I thought about it, and that's about as far as I got!  ;D

I was scanning Utah Lake this afternoon from the Cabela's parking lot. Not sure how the harbors have held up, but the main lake looked ice free for as much as i could see (with binoculars). If it locks up though, I'm definitely in for chasing some white bass... those are some of the scrappiest panfish I have come across.
