sleigh top or cover
« on: Mar 09, 2015, 03:58 PM »
hey looking for some advice or suggestions. I had a Viking sleigh kicking around http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=430513 used to pull it out on the ice once in awhile well fishing well I finally got a snowmachine so I aint pullin it no more so I built a tow harness and put some slides under it....tows nice only problem im having is it just loads the snow into it burying my gear... I need some sort of cover but these sleighs didn't have optional covers like the purpose built fishing sleighs....any ideas on what I can do here?  I was thinking a plywood top but then I thought that might not be the greatest either..  suggestions?

I have no idea what a viking seigh is like?? If its a tub type sleigh, measure and get a eskimo, otter, frabil , clam soft cover. They work pretty good. My eskimo inferno 2 cover is a little small for my eskimo tub , but works??

Cabelas used to sell sled covers.  Thats what I use.  and a couple of bungees across the top just to make sure it stays on.....

You are trying to fix the results (snow over the bow)...  You need to fix the problem (get the bow above the snow).  Search for Smitty Sled if hand pulling.  Otherwise if useing ATV or Sonwmobiles to pull the sled then do what I did... Mount Downhill Skis (The shorter and wider the better) imho, to the bottom of your sled.  Thrift shops have them Downhill Skis CHEAP.

Just make a cover: Cut tarp to size (the slick material tarps will she d snow better). Fold edges over about 2"and hot glue down. Put grommets in every 12-15". Run bulk bungee cord rope alternating in/out of grommets and tie ends in over hand knot at appropriate tightness to cinch cover to sled lip. Ta Da! About $10 - $15 in materials. Mine has lasted 3 seasons.

How about a thick, good quality tarp. You can cut it to size and get a grommet kit at any hardware store. Thread a 1/2" rope through the grommets and cinch it tight around the lip of the sled. Use a few bungees across the top as needed?

This cover is from Cabelas.  It has an adjustable cord and zippers for easy access.

I pull my Jet sled but I have a plywood top attached with a piano hinge and a bracket to hold it open. Rod holders under the lid keep them from getting crushed along with a couple spring clamps to hold stuff I don't want to dig out. I bungee the auger and stove on top. Works great for what I do.

I currently have a bungee style but afraid the cover will blow off on the highway in the back of my truck so I am going to switch out the bungee for a 1" ratchet strap so I can really lock it down
