Humminbird Ice-55
« on: Dec 06, 2011, 07:43 PM »
Was wondering if anyone has found a website or store with a cheaper price then $499 for this unit? I'am looking into purchasing one of these units and want to find the best deal before buying:)

Seriously,  If your gonna buy a 55 seriously consider buying an Lx-5.  Not trying to be a "marcum" guy here but it is a way better unit.  There is no advantage to buying a unit with less target separation and no SFL.  Really man,  If you haven't seen both on the ice do yourself a favor and do so....  The difference is unreal......

I'd actually take my lx-3 over the 55.  If you want to research my posts you will see I was hell bent on selling my lx-3 last year to get a 45 when it was on sale for what I could sell my 3 for.  Had it sold then happened to go fishing and experienced a bird on the ice.  Yeah the wider display is nice but even after tuning in this newbs 45 it was crap.....  You don't know me and you gotta do what you gotta do, but seriously play with them all on the ice before you make a decision......

I own a vex fl8 I'm happy with it but if I was to do it again the marcums got the king of the mountain title right now :)...not saying you wouldn't like the bird...but you are a bargain hunter so your best bang for your buck isn't in the bird...the digital display is cool and all and eye catchy but everyone is giving you great advice

Unless you really need the other colors and minor other features I think the Ice 45 is a better buy in the Humminbird department. Not going to get into a marcum, vexilar debate, but if you want a humminbird, look into the 45 for a min.

In my opinion the best bang for the buck is BY FAR the Bird 55 at $351.81 after tax, shipped and rebate. You get the huge screen, the flat screen, center LCD readout that automatically sets you at the appropriate depth scale and the 6 color option with the soft case. You give up just a little in a couple areas  but all those exclusive extras really make up for in my book. On top of all that it's WAY less expensive. The Ice 35 is BY FAR the best bang for the buck in the entry level class and that one's not even close.

I disagree totally, first of all  the digital depth is a gimmick,  If you can't read the depth scale on a flasher, you probably don't have enough brain cells t catch a fish. Secondly,  If you need 6 colors that aren't individual colors like the marcum True color that uses three different color led's  I garantee the tru color is more precise.  Again i am giving up the bigger size of the sisplay, tho I think it just makes the resolution worse.  So I guess if you need to start quoting prices down the penny you are pretty desperate so I won't even go there.  But I have been in sales for a long time.  The people in my experience who complain about stuff are those who purchase the cheapest option and never again can be happy with their purchase.  So $351.81 for a unit or around $425  for a much better unit....  Believe you me that $75 will haunt you for a long time.  if you can't afford the $425 then get the lx-3tc for $349.00  especially if your not fishing over 20 ft most of the time.......  Like said before I would not trade my Lx-3 straight up for a dual beam 55  which would be the 55's only advantage IMHO.......

I think that if the birds were any good that they wouldn't be selling their top of the line flasher for $350.00 after it was introduced north of $500 2 years ago.  Marcum has been able to raise their prices from 2 years ago even on their flagship when a new flagship is about to set sail.....  I'm sorry anybody on the ice whose seen birds marcum and vexes next each other if their able to be objective will tell you the same.......

I have posted numerous times on this subject but here goes again. Ive had an ICE-55 since they came out over 2 years now.Ist off its a fine unit does everything it says it does.In my humble opinion the features it has are not gimmicks!!! I love the large flat dial and the digital readout, and i assure you eyestroker i have at least as many brain cells as you do perhaps a few more!!and im not desperate either.I have fished alot around all the units out there there are minor differences in the unit but all are good and all will help you catch fish!!!! If you can get a 55 for 351 bucks go for it. and you wont be sorry!!!!!!Purchase what you can afford enjoy it and dont let some super smart and not so desperate sway you!
Again the 55 is great and that price is even better you wont be sorry and you wont even look back with any remorse!!!!

I agree with jarhead the Ice 55 is a great unit. The large flat dial is easy on the eyes. It has many useful features. Great battery life. Digital center has all your info such as what cone size, battery life, etc..
I have owned and used most of the major brand flashers on the market and you can't go wrong with any ... they'll all help you decipher what's below and help you catch fish.

I think this was uncalled for. Just because your preference is one brand or model doesn't mean that is what someone else may like. Then I guess all the new features on the new LX-7 are gimmicks ?
I think not. By having so many units/ features the ice fisherman has more choices and they can choose which best suits them. It also gets away from a monopoly which keeps prices lower.

Well said. The bells and whistles vary some, but ulitmately they all get the job done.

The guy asked about finding the best price on a humminbird and guys start talkin other brands.  ??? What help is that in answering his question? Somebody needs to get out of the house.
Have you checked Amazon.com's website? I got my bird there and saved quite a bit last season.

I would just save the cash and get the 35, its a great unit, easy on batteries and a couple of buddies have them, I have a fl20 and a LX3, its as good as the fl20 and propably better than the LX3,  I much perfer the screen of the bird35  over the lx3,  I have heard of issues with the 45's and 55's

Just thought I'd say I have nothing against the LX-5...seen em run and they're a nice flasher. A buddy has a Vex and it works just fine. I've got a 55 and wouldn't trade for anything...I guess I just get sick of reading some of the crap up here >:(

I agree, the 55 is smooth like butter. The only reason I sold mine was to take a chance on an lx7. So far, Marcum is making me regret my decision.
