home made sled tow bar

I was wondering where to mount the tow bar on a homemade smitty sled, would it be best to attach directly to the front of each ski, or mount it to the cross members on the sled?

I would put a brace across the ski's and mount it to the ski's. Even just a piece of square aluminum across there should be enough.
