I was wondering if anyone in NY used permanent houses.  I haven't seen any sitting around since I've moved here.

we only pan fish silver and really we set up on the south weed edge every time and do well. so I thought it would be nice to just be able to leave the shanty right there. also we are having our first kid she is due this week so money is tight I work at lowes and think I can make a shanty for half the cost of buying one and it would be a little warmer and more comfotable for my pops.

As long as you have your name and address on the outside in 3 inch or larger letters. Also puts lots of reflectors on the outside so snowmobiles don't plow through it.

I wouldn't leave any gear in it but I have never had any issues with mine other than it freezing in.  Makes A great place for a bonfire and some beers late at night!

Check the local restrictions, but per NY regs it's legal.  Just make sure you get it off the ice by March 15th.  Last time I checked that was when they had to be off by.  And there are still plenty of New Yorker's who use permanent shacks.  Just take a look at Lake Champlain in the Port Henry area, schrron lake, Lake George... Port Henry used to have quite the shanty towns...
