We were on horsethief all morning into the the early afternoon. The morning was great tons of action and the rest of the day was slow but consistent. Our group ended up pulling 34 trout out of the water by the dam in between 50 to 80 feet out the ice was around 7 inches deep and was talking to us all day.

Just a heads up for everyone out there interested in getting the kids into ice fishing.  From what I've heard through the grapevine, Idaho F&G is going to have their Take Kids -ICE- Fishing day at Horsethief this year (was Cascade last year) on January 14th.  They're going to stock some hatchery fish there the week before.  For everyone that came to Cascade last year, this was a huge success and we had a great time. but the lake was a bit large and the people/fish were spread too far out.  (Still I was busy filleting plenty of fish at the Cabela's "Kill 'em and Grill 'em....err, Deep-fry 'em" station.)
I know some of you might poo-poo the idea of the masses deploying to the lake if it's one of your favorite spots - but it's for the kids, man!!!  Plus then there might be some of those planters left next summer/winter that have grown-up and we can have fun hooking into them then!

Hey Greenlife,

They gonna need help drilling holes this year? If you know the date let me know, if I'm off I'll help.

Sorry, guess my message was a little confusing.  The date for this year is January 14th, I didn't mean to make it sound as though I was restating when last year's was.

I'll post more info as I get it from my event coordinator at work...I assume we'll do the fillet and cook station again.  Looked on the IF&G website and they don't have it listed there officially yet either.  More to come...

My daughter will be up for that and me of course. If help is needed let me know! That sounds like an awesome time to get youngsters and any body else to get out and enjoy ice fishing. I love taking people ice fishing for the first time, it's usually sticks in their mind and they want to do it again. Except the father in law, he says slush fishing sucks. Long story behind that one.

Was ice fishing with my pa-in-law when I asked for permission to marry his daughter.  I was a bit scared going into it that I might "accidentally" step into an unmarked hole or through shallow ice.  ;)  Obviously all is well and am looking forward to more trips with the old man.
