getting paranoid
« on: Nov 01, 2011, 11:58 PM »
It's probably just because it's still early and not everything is on the shelves yet but I've been to scheels, two gander mountains and a couple Walmarts and I haven't seen any ice blue rods or genz bugs.  It's a little worrisome because genz bugs have always produced for me and I use the thirty inch ice blue rods for my tip downs.  Can anybody report some findings and calm my nerves or are they gone (granted I can probably still get them online)?  Also while I'm thinking about it, are there any discontinued ice fishing products you miss?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but from what I've heard the genz bug has been discontinued.

Check fleet farm...The local store here has both things you are looking for.  Otherwise check their website.

I'm planning a trip to winona to check out fleet farm.  I love that place.  I could live there. Fleet farm that is.  Not winona.  Poor Vikings fans (mostly kidding haha) If the genz bug has been discontinued that would be a big old sad face.

Yep I agree. Fleet Farm is my new favorite outdoors store. They pulled through for me when no other store around the La Crosse area did.....

Heck, I haven't seen any Ice fishing gear in any stores in Western Colorado. Sportsman's warehouse said this next week they were going to put theirs out.

The Gentz bugs have been discontinued, but not to worry mrcrowley, the same jig is being marketed under different names by Lindy, HT, Eagle Claw and a couple of other tackle companies, its too good of a design for it to be sent to the Tackle scrap heap !!

Did Gentz and Lindy have a falling out?  I noticed the Gentz worm is now the lindy worm and is available in different colors.  The stores around here have very sporadic ice gear each season.  Last year was sub-par the year before was awesome.  The guys order their stuff in October ::) hard to tell what the season will bring in the southern ice belt.
I'm cold and I like it

Nooooo! Eh I'm over it. Anyone have the names of some of the genz bug-esque jigs?  I saw the hexiflies last year but never pulled the trigger.  This year I will for sure.

Yeah the online part isn't a problem.  I was just wondering if any stores had been carrying them.

You know what's interesting about your statement is that my wife thinks about things the same way (not that theres anything wrong in that).  When my wife thinks about purchasing something she hunts the papers to find the item(s).  My first instinct is to go to the Internet.  The way I figure is I am always going to find what I want, in the color, size, or what=ever, and I get it in 3 days.

I'm with you. I need something I get on the internet. If I know I can get it local I will. But most major stores are 65 Miles from me. I have to drive either 12 or 20 miles to the nearest lumber yard.

I know about that brother, I'm a little closer at 45 miles, but still.

I love me some online shopping but when it comes to rods I like to pick out which ones I buy so I know the guides are all lined up and all that kind of good stuff.  It doesn't look like gander mountain in la crosse is going to carry the ice blues.   They have these frabill hot sticks which look like less good ice blues.  They didn't have the thirty inchers out yet which is what I like for my tipdowns.  Next Monday or Tuesday I'll probably head up to fleet farm.  I'm excited.

Fleet in Oshkosh had ice blues, I picked up the last 4- 24" they had. We like to use the 24" for whitefish on the Bay of Green Bay. With these rods you can watch the tip and see the sometimes super light bites, plus the action of the rod helps to not rip the hook out of their soft mouths.

Going to Fleet Farm isn't going to a store, it's going to Mecca for Men.
