It's been very poor mushrooming this summer, that is until Irene came and brought the much needed rain.  I've been out after work now for almost a week and this is the best year I've seen in a long time for Black Trumpets.  I have had the dehydrators cranking for a week building up my supply of dried mushrooms that will go great with fish this winter!  Next up is the "Hen of the Woods", with these cool nights and warm days with a little rain forcasted.....should be a good fall for them.
Here are some pics.

"Lion's Mane"

"Chanterelle's"  It's been a bad year for them.

"Black Trumpets".....Look closely!   :)

A nice basket of Lions, Boletes, Trumpets, and Chanterelles.

Getting the Dehydrators ready.....

My kids love to help me clean them....as well as eat them!

Really nice!

I wish I knew more about the mushrooms people pick up here. Nice to see the kids involved too.

I'VE been in the woods quite a bit the last few weeks scouting for deer, the black trumpets are all over. What is the best way to take care of them. I see you are drying them out , are they good to fry, also how do you tell if they are still "fresh" to eat ?

It has actually been a very good year for golden chanterelles up this way...I have found so many more than last year, and big ones too!  The latest crop has been pretty worm-eaten though.  It is nice to see some of the herecium mushrooms...I have found some down in NY, but not yet up here.  I have been finding some sweet tooth though.  Tasty for sure!

The black trumpets sure are all over in certain areas now...and I found a small hen the other day!  Big chickens too.  I have never gotten into black trumpets before (not much oak on the property in NY), but now I need a dehydrator to dry them.  I might try the oven at the lowest temperature.

I'm sending a link of this thread to my wife- she's been taking photos of mushrooms for a few weeks. You have some very awesome shrooms there!! I've had those Black Trumpets before... they were awesome.

Do you guys ever eat the lobster mushrooms?  I have had a terrible time trying to get them clean enough to eat!

Had a good hunt here today in Wisconsin. Found a few giant puffballs, a bunch of oysters, and a really nice bearshead tooth or lions mane as you boys call it.

Giant puffballs are great edibles!  Unfortunately, they do not preserve well.  So eating them fresh is always a treat!
