Things seem to be holding up remarkably well... So far... The river has come up but not nearly what I expected it to. I plan on fishing at least 3 days this week, 2 of which will be on the river. I'll post my findings tomorrow.

Fished a cove yesterday and had to pick our spot on but coming off was no problem  I guess it was high tide when we got on.  Plenty of ice (14") but where are the pike?

Pike took a huge hit in the river this summer with the water temps and low water levels. The bigger fish are less tolerant of warm water than the smaller ones. LOTS of BIG dead pike were found floating from Hartford all the way down the river. I spoke with the DEP after they investigated the reports... I can't remember the exact number of fish over 36" that they found floating, but it was sickening and that was only what was floating. They night that they checked, the surface temps were 86*

I fished another cove nearby this morning. The access was a piece of cake. The edges were dry and strong. Still had well over 14" of ice, at least half of that was clear and black. With no rain for the next few days, the coves should be in great shape for the weekend. I'll be back out again tomorrow!  ;D

Blaine thats what we (Bill S. and I) have been saying all year about the river.  Its unfortunate because if our theory is correct its going to take a few years for them to come back.  I think I read on CTF of a 46"er!!! floating in South Windsor.  Just look at the Piketoberfest results and you can get a good reading of how well the pike are doing.  With the poor Striper run last year and now this the river is really beat down.  Oh well I'm sure the carp and catfish are still there and we had a pretty good shad run last year.

Pike grow fast and die young in connecticut, at least thats what the dep ct freshwater fish guide says, i assume within 5 years things should rebound,
