Could some of you folks call Idaho F&G?????

  So, as most of you know, on Thursday a couple of guys fell through the ice on Winchester.  Well, this incident made it into the newspaper and on the radio.  All this bad press about Winchester Lake, caused the Idaho Fish and Game to pull their support for the derby.  They had promised F&G personnel to be on hand, and loaner equipment for participants without gear.
  I don't know about you guys, but this just PISSED ME OFF!!!!  Seems to me, if the conditions were "iffy" on Winchester Lake, F&G would WANT TO BE THERE, teaching ice safety and personally checking the ice condition...figure it would kinda' fit in their job description....you know PUBLIC SAFETY AND EDUCATION.  I know if I was dealing with the Michigan DNR, they would've been out there in force. 
  If any of you think that the F&G were in the wrong, could you please call the Lewiston office and voice your opinion with someone there?

you can bet i will email them that is bull they are payed by the sportsmen and if they tell you they will be there then they should...if not only to make sure no one gets dumb and trays something they shouldn't.hope that doesn't happen this coming sat.in s.e. Ida.they are to be there so we will see.

Maybe one more reason for an ice fishing club....hmmm...safety and influence in numbers. You can bet F&G would lend an ear and a hand to the bass clubs, fly fishing clubs, yadda yadda yadda.

I sent a Email, that is junk, did the fellas who fell in make it out alright? I have never been to winchester but if they said they would be their they should at least check the safety on the ice.  anyhow they need to be their. I am shure they will be siting in the truck with the heat on in the parking lot checking licences thou.

Great point fishslayer! You know they wouldn't hesitate to ticket someone who wasn't sure what they were doing over showing up and making sure the folks interested in supporting their incomes, fancy rigs and nice jobs new what they needed to do to make sure they were safe and following regs....Hogger

have you been out since the lake had 6 inchs of slush I was out on the 21st had 4-5 inch of slush on top of 12 inches of solid stuff. limited out by 1100. Did not go out this last weekend wonder if the slush froze ? Also as you can tell new to this gig so trying Ice Shanty out. Thought I would do some night Ice fishing on Winchester Wow what a pain I was not shure what was leagal or illegal and apparently no body else did . Use to do a bunch of night fishing in Montana but the folks in winchester are not use to it. How did the tournament go I was out so was not able to attend?

Went out on Friday to Winchester....  It was so tough going, I don't know if I will be heading down this week...did I mention I forgot my license so I didn't even fish?  Even though we had that cold weather, I stepped in two holes I drilled the weekend before.  Had 37 people signed in at the Derby and everyone seemed to catch fish and have a great time.  Fishing at night is OK on Winchester!
