C.C.F.P. ALLIANCE
« on: Feb 23, 2011, 11:36 AM »
Time to grab the BULL by the horns and give the Forest Preserve some much needed help. Sometimes we take for granted that there are Bass/Walleye lakes right out our back door which have lasted not because of luck, but the willingness of a few that care. As is the case with a lot of issues, the older members who have been involved year in-out need reinforcements of younger generations to help care for our waters. Nothing has been set up as of yet, but if we can get a few volunteers together here and form a group, we could then get into helping out in anyway we can............SO WHO'S IN?

  Told you Prizz.....

most people on this site just want the rewards.  None of them are interested in fixing the problems
Just tell them where they can catch fish. So they can show up and take as many fish as they can.
Unlike these bucket heads, i will help where i can! When i can! Its not my county, but I'm am still willing to help
compared to these bucket heads!!!!!!!!!

Very disappointed in this site. Bunch of bucket heads. thought this site was gonna have some decent caring
fisherman............ but yet another website with nothing but bucket heads.

Love to see them prove me wrong.. but we'll see. So is the same bet on?
Lets think about the future instead of just the now. Can any of you BUCKET HEADS THINK THAT FAR ???
I hope this gets something started, besides me getting my a$$ kicked. But then at least something will get done.

If noody wants to kick your ARSE, hopefully I can take care of that this weekend by the # of fish I catch! J/K As far as this sight, the Illinois sight is lousy but go to "Icefishing Michigan" and the board never stops growing! I don't get it but if anyone is interested, shoot me a PM. Nobody is forcing anyone to participate more than they want to and help is appreciated. We are just looking to better what we all have out our backdoors! Again,, all we are trying to do is set up some sort of alliance with the forest preserves. BUCKETHEADS need not apply!!! ;D

yeah its not the fact that you've done a terrible job of being descriptive and have given us no information on what you are even talking about, its because we are bucketheads and just want you to post your spots so we can clean them out.

I would like to commend your thoughts on efforts to help PRESERVE the Forest preserve lakes. I am an aging angler ( 65 this year ) I have lived in the city of Chicago most of my life except my time in the service and have fished many of the preserve lakes over that time. Most of those ventures turned out to be more of a day in the sun rather than heart pounding fishing action.
I have met and fished with anglers from all around the area. My experiences with them lead me to believe that your assumption that no one cares is quite off base.

There may not be a lot of anglers on the illinois portion of the site. Even fewer will be from the Cook county area. How do you expect to garner a large amount of support from such a small venue?
IMHO to call other posters here names is uncalled for. There are many volunteer groups and seasonal occasions where many participate in things like Clean ups, clean outs, restoration of habitat. Things like installing cribs and  the Yearly Muskie round up at Shabbona Creek.
Just because you cannot get together enough anglers to start your own group is by no means reason to berate others.
You can do some research on organizations and find there is always a need for young healthy Bucks ( I'm assuming you fellas are ) to pitch in and help the fishing community in many ways.
I can understand the anger when you see some of the unbridled flaunting of the conservation laws by persons with no regard or those that are merely ignorant.
I would advise contacting the CCFP and see if there is something that you can do for them.
In any case, I wish you well in your endevours.

Good luck with your efforts, but remember the CCFP is run by friends appointed by the politicians, so you better have deep pockets if you want to bring about any changes.

One reason you won't see much interest is that the hardcore fisherman opt to go a short distance further to fish productive waters that yield both quality and quantity.  I have not seen a good report or a picture of a decent mess of fish from a CCFP lake in my few years here in the Chicagoland area, not on this site or any other Chicago based fishing site.  I know good fishing is subjective, if you want to fish all day only to sort through 200 fish to keep 10 6-inch bluegill, more power to you.  On the other hand, others and myself would rather travel the extra 15-20 miles to get on a good bite where 25-50+ nice gills (7.5" + is the norm) in a few hours, the fish poplulation goes uneffected year after year.  If I go out and don't catch 20 keepers, I personally consider it a bad day of fishing.

You claim everybody is a buckethead looking for info, I don't recall ever seeing a report from you which revealed a good catch on any lake so not sure where you get that from.  The whole buckethead thing is over used, seems those who don't catch many tend to call everybody who catches and keeps fish a buckethead.  You go on to claim nobody wants to fix the problem, however, your buckethead logic is the problem.  The problem with many of the CCFP lakes is they are over populated with dink gills, perhaps if you bucketed more of the fish you would free up room in the biomass to support larger fish.   As long as an angler is keeping fish within the established limits I see no harm done.

Actually thank you very much for your replies and in ANY case, I would never bad-mouth any member who I have never met. I am aware of the timing of this forum and it's starting to form under a different site. I will continue to use this site for the "Michigan" forum as the Illinois site seems to be updated(by fihermen) only a couple days a week.I might be new to these sights, but I'm not new to fishing. There really is not a whole lot to tell ya that we have set up, a bunch of us are meeting out at Papoose lake to meet up for the first time. Yes there are a lot of clubs/groups who are established, but to get another one going for the sake of the future's forest preserves is never a bad thing. Numbers, numbers, numbers solve problems, not a whole bunch of individuals thinking the "MACHINE" has a stranglehold on the situation. Once again, if you are interested, let me know. And if you think it's a hopeless cause, move on. Most people on these sights are NOT the ones limiting out on 6"-7" gills, crappie, perch to just put them in the car and go back out with another bucket. So if you ARE offended by the "buckethead" remark, you know what they say.......the truth hurts. What WE are interested in is to get the habitat that these lakes need to get the lakes to be able to handle the pressures along with trying to get information out to those who can't read the size/creel limit signs(you know what I'm talking about). Maybe I'm gung-ho out of nowhere, but now having little ones of my own, I feel it's my part to show them that we need to care for what Mother Nature has provided. It's man that is screwing with this and has always been the case. There have been many to step up to the challenge of making a difference and there WILL always be that need of younger generations to step up to the plate. I guess that is where this is coming from. PM if interested- thnx

Prizz, I am not offended by any means with your original post or what you want to do, I was just simply stating know what you are getting into before you leap, having an organization that serves as a change agent is far different than having a group of guys who go out to fish as a club.  I think what you want to do is a noble idea, and I hope others who are into fishing the CCFP help your cause, some of us just have no desire to fish those ponds.  I know there are people who poach out there feel free to use the label buckethead on those people, but anymore the terms seems to be overused, seems anybody who puts fish in a bucket is now coined a buckethead by others who don't yield results.

good luck

I am ALL for having fish in the freezer for a meal and that's just that. Most local lakes in Illinois, "they" say to only eat 1meal per month. My 5 year old loves to throw a crappie or gill on the ice to bring home knowing that he is providing his family with a meal. The greatest thing is he will also let them go "to get bigger" and that is qhat it is about. "Selective harvesting" is what we call it in our family and it's people(like me) who use the County lakes to take the kids out and learn how to protect teh environment. We can go up to the cottage in Michigan for some real boat fishing, I would just like to be involved knowing that when my son catches a huge bass or walleye for that matter, that I had a hand in preserving that fish for him to catch. See ya around
