I am fairly new here and have been trying to stay out of a lot of the "BS" that has gone on lately but I have reached a point where I just have to speak my mind! Here goes....

Yes some people seem a tad critical and sarcastic on this site
Yes some people have a lot of posts
Yes some people don't really contribute that much in what they say
Yes some people don't research other posts before asking questions and it seems repetitive
Yes some people seem to tell some fish stories or give inaccurate info (eg. my auger is great but does not start or a camera can see in murky water)
Yes some people have differences in opinions (eg. to keep or not to keep etc)
Yes some people may have slight personality conflicts with others
Yes some people have horrible spelling and many grammatical errors and do not even attempt to use the spell check tool
Yes some people have a higher education than others (I have 2 degrees, one being a Masters...that does not make me any better than anyone else)
Yes some people on this site are new and just learning so may not know the ropes yet
Yes some people have pretty poor English writting skills
Yes some people only seem to post about Lake Winnipeg
Yes some people seem to post things that may be irrelevant or just pure nonsense

And the list goes on and on,

BUT CAN'T WE ALL JUST TRY TO GET ALONG?
Some good hearted banter and joking is funny and enjoyable to read but some of the comments lately are bordering on disrespectful and are in poor taste.
The one thing everyone should agree on here is that if you took the time to register for this site YOU ENJOY FISHING.........
SO CAN WE ALL TRY TO TREAT EVERYONE AS WE WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED!!!!!

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers here, start a big on line debate, or single anyone out (heck, I'm guilty of some of the points I mentioned too) but this site was a lot better when I first signed up and everyones main focus seemed to be FISHING (and that was not too long ago).

Great post Tommy Jr.!!! Couldn't agree more! This is a fishing site and shouldn't be used as a chance to take a stab or trash talk others. I have found myself not visiting this site as much as previous years due to this fact!! Good for you! Lets stick to fishing! The season is too short, to spend it reading trash talk!

I could not have said that better myself TJ.

I have been a member on this site for 3 or so years - mostly a "Lurker" as the saying goes. That is because I don't have the chance to get out as often as I would like with family and work commitments. I often check this site once per day for the entire winter just to see how other members are making out, different spots etc. to feed my addiction! I am passing my passion for this great sport into my young son and wife who now accompany me on most of my outings when time permits. I tell them that when I was a kid in the 80's a portable shelter was sitting on a pail with my back up against the truck tire on the lee side of the truck unlike now in our Clam with a heater and sonar on each side.

I think its time to speak out as I am completely disgusted and embarrassed to be from this province with the replies as of lately - most recent being the comments made on the thread "fish fry". To take shots at someone like that is incredibly petty IMHO. To think that some of the comments come from someone who works in the industry, as far as I'm concerned that individual is neither a role model OR an ambassador to this fine sport, hopefully he regains that in time. This goes for all the people on this site who I have seen take shots at another member - next time before you hit "post" why not take a pause and read what you are about to send and wonder - will anyone benefit from this?

To the member who pulled the picture of his MA Walleye taken at the mouth of the Red as he was ridiculed for the "eyes being frozen". To tell you the truth when I saw that picture for the first time I thought "man what a fish" I was not scrutinizing the picture to find a fault with it like others. I bet you were proud of that catch and rightfully so. All you had to do was look where the negative comments came from - nuff said.

I have been on Iceshanty for almost 7 years and I've noticed a trend happening over and over. When the fishing or the weather sucks....the negative stuff sadly gets posted on here probably out of boredom. When the reverse happens the posts reflect the change and everyone is happy!
We have a lot of newer members that have not seen this happen so they all get involved in this negative banter.
I agree with Rainbow......been there done that.....let's get back to fishing 
Mark my words....watch next January's posts and you'll see what I mean!
