Jason Mitchell - Mackinaw rod is my go to rod, in med/heavy. I have both the spinning and bait caster. I also have a few custom built ones by / Thorn Bros. and Austin Custom Rods. The later two were twice as much, around $65 compared to the $39.95 at Fish307.

Side note: the Jason Mitchell baitcaster is pretty sick, even has the spiral guides.

All my laker sticks I built myself. They range from medium heavy to extra heavy and 32 to 42 inches in length.
I also have conventional and spiral wound baitcasters as well as spinning rods. You can't have too many rods you know.   ;D
Which rods I use depends on the size of the trout in the lake I'm fishing. I fish some lakes where the average size is small like 2-4#'s and others where the average size is 10-15#'s and yet other lakes where the trout can reach weights of over 60#'s. Different sticks for different lakes.   ;)

I agree 32"-42" , also agree 100% that the rod depends on the size of the trout in the lake ur fishing. Being a PS'er myself I know the lakes ur probably gonna fish. Tupper  has ur best chance at a real nice one, Placid has a lot of smaller ones. If ur thing Lake George - I think my buddie got the biggest one outa there last year - a 37" er . Tell ya what ya can't go wrong with an ugly stick - but for around the area - I think the Jason Mitchell is ur best bet....

Drifter I may now need to go on a road trip !!!! 60# Lakers !!!!  :o Ya got my attention  ;D

I've tried a few different setups, and at one time thought about getting a custom built for lakers but then found Proline Ice rods which sounded good and cheaper, and now they're my favorite for lakers.  If you like a spinning rod I recommend them, I prefer spinning rods for lakers although I use baitcasters to.  The Prolines have a skinny blank but don't be fooled they are super strong, its a fiberglass inner blank wrapped in carbon fiber.  Reasonably priced to, I think it was Reeds where I got mine.  I first experimented with a 36" and I loved it so much I bought a 42", and a smaller 27" for walleye.  When I first tried the 36" I found its got a very unique action, I can fish jigs in the 1-2 oz range effectively and it doesn't feel like a wet noodle but I can also downsize all the way to 1/4 oz if I want and it works great too, hard to explain till you tried one.  I caught my second biggest laker on that 36" rod a couple years ago -  27#s estimated and it handled it decently, but a 42" will work better for the bigger ones.  The 36" Prolines I find are optimal up to about 15-20# lakers, but still handle bigger ones decently if it has to.

One more thing I got to mention - no matter what rod ya choose - a rod with a longer handle will save your wrist - if ya plan on spending any amount of time jiggin...
