Took my wife out for her first trip on the ice, fished for around 4 hrs north and east of boat dock and caught one trout 13 in long. In all, it was a sucess she is hooked!

Great to hear she is hooked. I haven't been up to Standing Bear for a few weeks, when we were up there we did fairly well off of the same dock. Hopefully it will come back around.
If its frozen, they will come

Standing Bear     Just fished this afternoon.  Multiple locations 11 to 18 FOW in our normal "honey holes."  Marked alot of fish.   Caught a few trout 10-12" off bottom on small jigs and waxies.  Everything appears very tight lipped due to approaching cold front and snow.  It's cold--bring heater if you go.  12-15" of Ice.

Prairie View        Fished Sunday AM to Mid Day.  Small gills.  No Crappie.  Good Ice 14."  Very unproductive.

Iowa Farm Pond   Fished Saturday.  This is the ultimate "honey hole."  Usually gives up a bucket of eater gills, crappie, and a few bass.  No bite till after 12 noon.  Everything tight to bottom and not interested.  Fished 10-18 FOW.  Only caught 10 good Gills--Light Bite.  14" Good Ice with Slush on Top (Everywhere).

So your experience with Standing Bear this Weekend has been repeated on numerous other local waters that always seem to "give it up."  Keep trying.  It's just about time for Late Ice and the Bite to pick backup.

Glad she's hooked!

Don't feel bad, it was slow for us too.  We were there sunday morning off the boat dock and picked up a few trout and two 3" bass.  I marked alot of fish deep but most of them didn't want to bite.  I could spot the trout easy because they would show up at 8' and slam my jig.
