MOON CYCLES
« on: Jan 20, 2011, 12:49 PM »
Ever notice or wonder if the moon cycle effects fishing?  I sure have, especially when the moon is full like now.

Fish seem to come down with lock jaw for a few days.  Another thing I notice is the change in the water in the hole.  If you notice some times the water is level with the ice surface and then it will be below just a bit and sometimes several inches.  All has to do with the moon's gravity I recon

Anyone else find the fishing tougher during a full moon?

I allways felt that my catch was better the week before and during the full moon as well as just before a low presure system comes in.
Gonna get me a 16" Perch this year.

the funny thing is according to my fishing calender the 3 days
after the full moon on jan 19 the fishing is supposed to be the best.lol
personally i think weather systems have a greater effect on the fishing.
how many times have you fished in a chinook after a long cold spell to
find the fish looking at your bait instead of eating it.:o)
just my opinion.

I have 6 calanders , from the last 6 years of fishing.... logging weather when I am out and barometric pressure as well as it has the moon cycles on it.

I am sure that if the moon effects tides on larger bodies of water...it might have a greater effect on these types of water as well...but on smaller bodies of water I wonder if it makes less of a diff.

I totally agree with ORV, I find the most difference in my fishing is when the weather system that is moving through the area is consistant for a few days...I find even when it warms...my logs show it's best to have the same weather for a few days...be it colder or warming patterns.  I find the first day of good or bad weather is usually a bust for me.

IDK...my Grandpa used to log his trips, I just started it out of interest...like my name suggests...I am still LOOKING for them..lol.

Cheers!!

Well, I don't have them on me now....as I am in ONTARIO on training.

I know there are actually weeks that have been pretty good fishing on say 4-5 of the calanders...consistenl y and that the weather was not the same...for a 3-4 of the years....and this is even at different lakes.  I will admit I am not that into the spawn times and the lot like that that effects fishing...

When I get back I will grab the patterns then anyone interested can just pm me.

Cheers!
