best hub style pop up 2010
« on: Jan 09, 2011, 05:01 AM »
hey guys went to buy my first hub style ice hut.. needed something big enough for the family. I had purchased the clam summit thermal but i think im going to return it right away before even trying it based on the reviews ive been hearing from people based on this years clam models.  some man released a video on youtube showing the poor material used and the wear and tear which occured over a couple outings here take a look

my question is out of the manufacturers this year who would you say has the most durable hub style popup i really would like to hold on to my hut for more than a season especially at the prices they are charging.

i was going to get the eskico quickfish 6 not sure havnt seen it they say it is thinthner so im a bit concerned or perhaps the frabills. any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

take care all

The Eskimo shelters around here are outselling the others by 3 to 1. Could be that they are a bit cheaper, but I like my Quickfish 4.

I have a quickfish3 LOVE IT!!   Just make shure you always use at least one tiedown even if its calm when you get to the lake you dont want to be that guy running accrosse the lake trying to catch your shanty. (Trust me I was that guy....ONCE!)

Ohh id say Eskimo makes a pretty mean shanty! The only problems they originally had were worked out years ago in the old model. Most companies have only been making this type of shanty for the last 1-3 years when Eskimo has been at this 5-6 years so they have a little more know how when it comes to hub shacks. Hope this helps!

Did my homework and went with Glens.
I was glad I got the recommendation from some of the readers here.  I also got the free shipping they offered.

Best built I could find. Better features,  Great reviews, Great price.  Free shipping.   Fast Service
In fact I decided to check out getting a 2nd Big Buddy, I use my other in the Shappell and needed one for our base camp.

Glens did it again,  I could not find a better price on line or in the stores.  Again took advantage of the free shipping.    Thanks to you all for recommending them to me.

just bought an eskimo quickfish 3 this year, and i love it! it's extremely comfortable with only one person, and a necessity when there is any wind. i also love being able to sight fish with it.

have a cabela base camp 6x6 and it seems good so far...lots of room and held up to some hard winds on silver lake yesterday.....need more anchors than they supply you with but that is my biggest complaint so far...it is made by clam but i like that it is black for cabelas...nice bag to store it in too...

All of the mentioned hubs are  good pick!!! I have a HT 2 person that I got on clearance last winter. I like it a lot and it has been holding up well (fingers crossed). I would like to get one a little bigger. The Eskimo Quickfish4 and the Glens ones are best for price and quality from what I have seen too.

Is it normal to have what looks like all kinds of pin holes in a hub shanty ?
