Yes, I know its short notice but we are looking for volunteers to help with teaching the kids to fish. Last year we had 170 plus kids show up for this event. We already have over 100 pre-registered as of today. There are plenty of adults but most of them don't know much about ice fishing. We need some pro's out there to help with techniques.
Cabela's will be there with there Clean and Cook Station (cooking their catch on location)
Sportsman's Warehouse is there with a Bait Station.
IDFG is there with gear and tackle for kids to use.
No license is required since it is an educational event.

I hope to see you guys there. I would like to meet some fellow ice fisherman from the area.

I just got off the phone with the Canyon County 4-H office, who is taking the registrations. They have over 200 at this point.
It will be a fun time. It looks like the weather might be improving for the weekend.
Let me know any questions.
Thanks!

Thanks, Woodland.
Yep, Check in at Van Wyck which is over by the golf course club house near the dam. Turn left right before Howdys.
Parking is free that day.
If you want to volunteer wear an orange hat to designate yourself. We have 6 guys with augers so far but we need more. Ice ladles will be a big need as well.
Check in at the 4-H or SFW booth.
With walk-ins and last minute registrations we guesstimate an easy 300 people attending.

Last year was a hoot. The kids made Cabela's clean and cook up a big ol' sucker fish.

I'll be attending too, and bringing the power auger. 300 people :o Guess I better bring an extra set of blades!

I'll definetly get there before 9 to avoid the main rush, and maybe get a little pre-hole drilling in. I hope they all don't want 5 holes a piece; 5x300=1500 holes :o

See you all out there, I'll have my black Frabil shanty with me.

Mike

DoveMan

Thanks for coming. I responded to your email.
Luckily most people will only need one hole! Otherwise it would be a nightmare!
I will be there at 7:30-8am.

See you there!

Already scheduled to be there as a Cabela's rep. Swing by and say hi.

Hopefully the weather isn't as bad as the forecast is saying and everyone can get there safe!!

The Youth Ice Fishing Day was a big success! The weather was great! The ice conditions weren't as bad as expected either. The fishing was slow but there were some fish caught. According to registration there was over 350 people that attended!
Thanks to Doveman, Woodland, Greenlife, and Bullfish for showing up and helping. It was good to meet you guys. Doveman was there bright and early and got a work out drilling holes!
I will post some pics asap.
Thanks again and look for this event again next year!

Good time was had by all I think. All the kids were having a good time, even though the bite wasn't on. I stopped counting holes drilled after 50! The rest of the lake besides where most of the kids were is now a SLUSH MONSTER.

Bows, bows, and more bows that day.  Didn't see any perch or coho, though I heard rumors of them being caught.  First fish of the day brought to the Cabela's station was the biggest - 17.5" female rainbow full of eggs.  Everything else were stocked size 9-10".  I think I filleted around 20 that the kids caught and another 30 that the F&G provided for us to cook.  Incredible difference in the color of the meat between the two.  Much better fish count than last year, so was a much better time for the kids.  During my "lunch break", took the flasher I'd brought along and went and tested several holes that the little guys were fishing (undercover recon work as well...haha).  Unfortunately didn't mark anything, but did find that most of the kids out there were fishing about 2' deep in 24' of water.  ;D  Got them lowered to where they should be, but I don't think they really cared, they were just happy to be out there (like most of us big kids) especially with as nice as the weather was.  Highly recommend everyone get out there for future events and mentor the kids who will be taking care of our public land and waters when we're enjoying retirement!!  Thanks again SFW!!
