ice fishing pac boot
« on: Dec 28, 2010, 04:16 PM »
hey guys,   i need a new pair of boots for ice fishing.   gander mountain has Baffin crossfires, Laccrosse iceman, and ice kings, and sorel glaciers.  anyone familiar with any of those?    wasnt sure if i should get one of them or a cabelas pac boot.  how important is weight for you?   i am a walker (on ice)  so i do not want to over look that.  heard good things about the baffin's  but them seemed kinda chincy   thanks guys

I purchased a pair of the La Cross IceMan and if your a walker I would stay away from them. I'm a walker also and these things are VERY heavy. Having said that, I really wish I had purchased a lighter pair.

Just bought a pair of Kamik Goliath 3 from MuckBootsOnline.com for $125 with shipping ... warmest and most comfy boots I've ever had ... and they have a THICK rubber outer shell so they'll be waterproof for a LONG time. I drill a LOT of holes, "kick-out" a lot of holes, and the snow cover gets quite slushy here so I wanted a waterproof boot that would STAY waterproof.  Plus if I ever step into an ice hole accidentally I won't have the o'l dreaded "wetfoot" ... provided I don't snap my leg in two! :o  All of my previous pac boots have failed me and leak H2O.

If you're a walker, pac boots tend to be too clumsy and heavy.  I use my Matterhorns boots or my Irish Setter boots.  My Lacrosse pac boots are for just sitting around and limited hole hopping in close proximity.

I bought a pair of Baffin Tundras last year and absolutely love them. The pair weighs less than 5lbs total so walking is a breeze and I have not been cold wearing them yet. $80 well spent for happy feet.
