I think the Rise and Fall of the Barometric pressure effects the feeding pattern of fish, not wind, in the winter.
But, wind is usually produced by the rising and falling of the barometric pressure. The pressure is somewhat lowish right now, and it is supposed to be breezy tomorrow. My guess is the pressure will be going up.
The way I heard it is: "Winds from the east fish bite the least, winds from the north dont venture forth, winds from the south put the bait in the fishes mouth, winds from the west fish bite the best." -The immortal words of Bill Dance.
This is something I can say a little about. Over the last 7 years I have been keeping a journal of my outings . both open water and Ice- Now before I get into this to much, there are variables that are not included in my findings. I did not keep count of sunny or cloudy or even the spot I was at, things that could effect the outcome of my fish catching. What I can tell you is this. When the wind is from the EAST I don't venture far from home, I have recorded a lot less fish catching days when the wind is from the EAST. The saying someone wrote earlier is almost spot on. The BEST days I have recorded is WEST wind days. Again this is just what I have found in my personal experiences and it did not matter that there was ICE. So for me I will travcel to fish on a west wind but will not travel far opn a east wind. Just my 2 scents. I suggest you do your own record keeping and see what you come up with!
