Thanks Cap...I'm new to Oakland county and I'm still trying to find a decent lake without becoming "that guy" that's always bugging people for the good spots. But my budget doesn't allow me a lot of wiggle room for scouting.  This saves me wasting my time and money to go up there. I appreciate it.

Heron lake has walleye, and not much winter fishing pressure. I have found that Wildwood and Valley are full of dinks but they taste good too.
Fish on !

PM's are a much better way to get info on area lakes.

I have been fishing Oakland county lakes for 25 years and if you're new to the area I'd be glad to point you in the right direction.

I am on Heron Lake right now.  I popped one hole fore gills and two others for my tip ups.  Tons of gills but no hits on the tip ups yet.  Been out for about an hour and a half.

I never did get any hits on the tip ups.  Caught a bunch of gills......had to jig them up off the bottom.  I did notice that the majority of the gills had black spots all over them.....never really seen that before.  Looked like some kind of disease or bacteria......weird.  Anyone hear of anything like that before?

There were only two other people on the lake when I was there.  Usually a few more during the summer months but I think that because you can only use electric motors there it keeps the traffic down somewhat.  I was using golden shiners on the tip ups and used my gps and sonar to get right where I wanted to be...........and nothing!  Oh well

Did pretty good on crappie early last winter, out from beach afew hundred yds lined up with the very end of the shore fishing rock wall on opposite side of lake, about 10 fow.  How thick is ice now?

Since you're new to area, I can let you know of afew areas not to far from you.  Wildwood is a fun place for kids to fish, lots of dinks.

I grew up in Holly and Heron, Valley and Wildwood were one mile away...great fishing all over. Hace you ever fished it in the summer? The DNR has maps for it. I can help you out. Also, Have you ever tried Bridge lake South  down Dixie Highway?

Also Heron out by Dixie is the infamous "Hole". There are also Tiger Muskie in the lakes.

PM me.
