best depth for pike?
« on: Jan 07, 2011, 04:58 PM »
ok guys im new to ice fishing , i do alot of saltwater fishing and am trying to pick up as much info for the ice as possible. one thing i havnt figured out is , is it always better to go deeper when the water is this cold?
i fished bantam today around noon and got two pike at the 16ft mark. im going back tomorrow and was thinking of heading to a deeper spot. any input is greatly appreciated
any fin will do

Nope.  ;)  A lot of times it's opposite, try some shallow less than 3'.  Unless you're in a crowded area of guys that can spook them.

Agreed. I've hooked my biggest at about 2, 3 and 4 feet of water. I have also seen 2 40 inchers come from 5-6'.
Pike fishing is a like a cruel mistress that is too beautiful to leave.

the best water depth at bantam is 5-15ft i try to put most of my traps in 5-12 ft and have done good i have got very few pike in deeper water and they all have been small set up near weed lines and you will start to get some bigger fish hope this helps
