Walleye and Perch
« on: Dec 27, 2010, 09:23 AM »
Hey guys and gals. Was searching for our best bet for a trip on Jan. 8. Me and my brother are taking our dad for the weekend. We were hoping to catch some walleyes and perch. Didnt know if the river was best or maybe the Ia great lakes. Any info would be awesome.  ???

2nd that.  But in Iowa Spirit prob gives you the best shot. Heard pretty good walleye bite on Storm Lake. Don't know about the perch on Storm though.

Yes, definitely Storm for eyes'.  However I spent 8 hours on the ice last two days including dusk with no luck, nothing on the vex.  everyone coming off the ice was saying the bite has slowed quite a bit.  Fished in 6' and 10ft.  Close to 20 shacks out there close to the inlet.  Caught one good-size perch, that's it.

Perch are plenty at Big Spirit..that's a good bet.

My vote is for spirit lake.  Always good action.  Some times crowded especially over the weekends but IMO it's a big lake, you should be able to find a spot  ;D

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the info. Good luck fishing and if you need any info here in around the Grinnell area I would do my best to let you know how the bite is.

If your from Grinnell, what's Rock Creek like?  You ever have any luck on it, summer or winter?

I've fished Rock Creek a couple times late last week.  No 'Eyes or Perch, yet, but plenty of Gills and a few Crappies.

Yeah Rock Creek has quite a few crappies and bluegills. Pretty good action right now. Go out from the east boat ramp. Bluegills can be caught off the flat point south of the ramp. Crappies tend to be out off the point in the main basin. Off the jetties too the north of the ramp is a community hole always fish there.

Any size to the fish on Rock Creek or is it just mainly for action?
