Check your local reg's on Muskie season. I know it ends November 20th here in Mn.

MN closes Nov 30th. Closes here same time, I wish other states would also close it during ice season.

You sure a 49" muskie wieghted 40 # ?   According to the scales , a 49 inch Muskie should wieght between 24lbs and 30lbs depending on time of year.

Thanks for the info guys cant wait to try again this year

Can't wait to see some of your info.

I have had a theory for a long time that not all of the fish we catch in the winter survive. Not because of gut hooks though. Because of freezing from being out of the water and contusions from being dropped on the ice, etc.  For example I caught a catfish the other day that was out of the water for no more than 2 minutes and its eyes and front fins were already begining to ice over.  No weight, no measurement, nothing. Just unhooked it - grabbed two pictures and released it.

I've seen other folks keep fish out for MUCH longer.

Still waiting to see these 50lb fish you keep talking about...

50 pound skies are not that uncommon on the St Lowrance, seen several MN fish caught this fall that are close or just over 50 pounds. Biggest was a 57" 52 pounder.

Hopefully someday all states with ice fishing see how valuble a resource muskies are and closes the season on them.

We get musky all the time.  Just make sure you nail ur rod holder to the ice, otherwise, big ones (or even just small ones) will take the rod and holder down the ice.  Not nice for the fish. Happened to me onece now I secure all rods.  its exciting when you do get one!

yeah i dont think some people just quite get it. Look on www.muskyfirst.com front page, and see the musky that was just caught outta the ST. LAWRENCE by Dale McNair, who last year also caught a mid-50 pounder..

Hammernicks 57" was 52 pounds also from MN. Couple in or near the 60" range also caught and released in MN this summer/fall.
