Finally got on some ice
« on: Dec 14, 2010, 09:29 PM »
fished the lake in my subdivision(Backyard) after work today! Got out from 4:30-8:00, ice was 5" and clear. walked out 30ft from the ramp and drilled a few holes and the vex lit up with fish... so needless to say I set up the shanty. ended up with 40-50 gills in the 6-7" range, 12 crappie in the 7-8"... I kept 3 decent gills and a nice channel cat. Here is a pic, nothin special,, but it was fun just to finally get out!! Its also nice to see the panfish getting bigger... 2yrs ago it was nothiing but 2-3'' bluegills and 5" crappies. Bass and catfish have always been huge tho. Hope everybody is finally on ice and getting thier "Fix" lol!

The fish froze before I could get a decent pic.

Dang water treatment company keeps killing it off... the lake has no weeds! Neighborhood association thinks the weeds are bad and they are not opened minded to any fisheman's perspective lol! I have caught 5-8lb largemouth and channel cats, but never any decent panfish. Well occasionaly I get a 11-12" crappie but thats rare... If they don't kill it off in the next year or two, this 30acre lake will have some nice gills in it!!

Very nice Fishslayer! Where do you live at in the Fort.  I live on the northeast side. Maybe we can hook up sometime and head out on some hard water

I live out southwest... yes if it works out lets hook up! I got another honey hole out southeast too... when the fishing gets tough on all the big lakes, I don't leave town! Plenty of little neighborhood lakes around the fort with good fishing.

I live southwest as well, is there any place to park there at liberty mills?  I know where the ramp is but have never ventured out onto any of these sub division ponds, I am in heather ridge and with ponds in Haverhill and others ive always wanted to try just unsure of what the local homeowners say or do.  new to this site, but not to ice fishing, my dad started taking me when I was 4-5 years old, and here some 40 years later its still in the blood, got a couple of weeks off starting next week and want to really give this new Vex a workout
