target seperation for HB and Vex
« on: Dec 17, 2010, 03:04 PM »
Do the numbers for target seperation drop when in the zoom mode? Are their 2 different measurments? Im curious after looking at the flasher reviews and the Marcum has 2 measurements, one for zoom and one for full view while the Humminbird and Vexilar are for full view??
Whats the seperation for Humminbird 55 and the Vex FL-20 in zoom modes?

Cheers!!

How does one do a test to get the seperation? Can it be done with 2 split shots? Im curious to try it out.

Yes it can be, we used a camera and determined when the jig left the bottom marked the line then marked again when it clearly showed on the unit then measure the difference.

I gues that test would require a perfectly flat bottom? What happens if you flasher's signal bounces of a slightly higher rock?
I'm going to give this a serious test and see if it can be as close or beat the LX-5. Like Ive said before Im no fanboy of any company, just want the best. I can't get any info on target seperation for Vexilar products so i will do this on my own and give the unbiased report.

Cheers!!

Bottom is easily visible also and the spot we did this was in a sandy bottom both units in the same hole ect for each testing.

Split shot test should work I think. Id be curious to see how botton hardness affects the outcome.
