Tip Up Location Sticks
« on: Feb 04, 2015, 04:34 PM »
Hi Guys -

I see guys using these on my lake all the time to mark where their tip ups are since snow drifts and distance can sometimes make finding them difficult.  I know these are probably not rocket science to make, but does anyone know of a place that sells them or a way to make sure they get seated into the ice?

Well, it's more so they dont get run over by snowmobilers.  Anyways, I went out and bought some wooden stakes and put reflective tape on it.  Rocket science!  ;D

Octane hi I don't think manosteel is talking about leaving them permantely he is talking about a marker so you can see them and others can see them. One of the best ways I have seen are 2' pvc sections painted fluorescent Orange or red or some high contrasting color with a piece of 2" wide reflective trailer tape in the top to secure them use I've shavings from the auger or some snow around the area and make a small mound and get it a bit damp and stick the marker in.

Thanks, I got wooden ones so we will see if they stand up...but PVC is a better idea for sure

This may not be the cheapest idea but how about driveway markers. They would already have reflectors built into them for night fishing.

I use Heritages, I went with a High-Visible paint job and some reflective tape. I even put a length of surveyor's tape pinched in the spring in high traffic areas.

My buddy uses wooden dowels with some reflective tape around the top. He runs BD tipups and screwed a pipe strap on the end so the dowel friction fits right on the the end of the tipup. I keep thinking I need a few and was thinking the PVC route with a cap glued to the end of my Polars for it to slip into.

The driveway markers could work too. The skinny fiberglass ones would take up less room but not be very visible during the day. Now I'm thinking of the solar lit ones......

Just as a thought on the pvc cap on the polars I don't have one in front of me now do you guys think the cap would be less than flush if I removed the tackle box then they would all fit in a bucket still.

I just use pine or fir boughs off a tree if I'm fishing from a camp or shack and am spread out.  Otherwise I'm always jigging in between my traps.
