Ive never used button thread myself but my buddy does and he says sometimes the thread doesnt have even diameter consistancy which can give it weak spots so you might want to pay close attention when your spooling up.

Thank you

Tank,
I've used thread the last two seasons with no issues. Use a reel that has a good drag. Enjoy!
Just like it, only diffrent.

i will use like 1lb as a backing then but about 20-30 feet of thread from meijer on my spool, the only thing i can suggest about it is dont try to hoist a big gill or spec from the hole, justslide it over the rise and u will be fine, i have NEVER broke my line from  big gills or specs so you will be fine

Singer brand is best, but you can use the stuff from Wal-mart too.  A limber rod and good drag on your reel are must.

Thats because you've never caught a big spec or gill!  ;D

if i may ask, what is the reason for using thread on your reel?  is it to detect lighter bites and minimize the amount of strech to the line?  I know people that occasionally use thread, but just wanted to know your reasoning.

The thread I am talking about is just like monofiliament line, but is around 1lb test or less.  It is clear like mono or floro and it does have some stretch.  I use the thread because the light line gets you more bites in clear water and it also allows small lures to fall quicker in deeper water.  A limber rod and quality reel with a good drag are needed to fish with thread.  Sharp hooks help too as you can't yank super hard on the hook set or you will snap the thread.  It also makes fishing more fun knowing you can't just winch the fish in every time.

Is thread still needed now a days with the super light mono's they have and the fusion lines?
