New Nighttime Target
« on: Mar 10, 2010, 08:56 AM »
Took a break from the eyes and tried for some crappies. Never really targeted them before, have caught some nice ones jigging for perch. Learned a lot last night, will have to put more time in after the eyes close next Monday. Used fatheads, also caught a bunch of nice perch before dark.

Thanks, actually those are 2 different fish. Ice is holding up for now, rain this weekend will put a hurting on it; travelling North will help.

For the night bite get some glow jigs, charge them up good and tip them with the fathead or spikes and watch out for the fish being high up in the water column, sometimes right under the ice over deeper water

Good advice on the glow jigs from the lurker  :woot:, black jigs work, too. Need to work on locations, it's a good size lake with few crappies but they are big; plenty of perch that don't seem to mind biting at night doesn't help. Thanks all.

Love them dinner plates!!  I did some evening/night crappie fishing on lake x earlier in the season and it went very well, I was hoping to get out this weekend and try it again but the weather might not cooperate >:(.

Right before the sun goes down the mayfly larvae that embed themselves in the silt/muck start to come up out of the muck and the crappies and perch go craaazy for em'.

That's awesome to get a full meal out of one crappie.
A black and red marmooska was my go to when the whites and glows wouldn't cut it. Especially during the daytime.
