Finally got out today. Its been too long since we got a few through the hole. Went out to bobtail lake in search of something new. and new is what we found. mostly coarse fishies but was good fun.
initially thought to be a whitefish not totally sure its been a while since I studied, but I think these were red side shiners. dorsal fin very far down its back and had nice red line on the side. dunno if you can make it out.
and another... can see the red sider a bit better on this one
after pulling up 4 or 6 of these lil guys (all between 8 and 12 inches in length). the girlfriend hooked into a monster. was pulling out line and and trying to get back to the bottom.
I was totally confused at first but then when she pulled it through he hole I wasn't so surprised.
her and her pink lures always showing me up. (normally on trout)
probably the biggest fish she has pulled up. so excited to get it through the hole even though it wasn't a "desired species" will be one she doesn't forget for a while. or at least until the next biggish one
we got'r down on the ice for a measure and it looks like about 19? 19.25, our excitement truly shows how long its been since we have been out.
so after we stopped laughing about this monster trout we thought was on things settled down and we got a real northern pike minnow or squawfish as we know them. not nearly the same magnitude of excitement
this lil guy(or girl) was only about 6 inches long.
all in all was a really great day the lake had about 20+inches of ice and the sun was shining. we had some good fun but never found the 4lb rainbows they say are in the lake. got a couple during the summer in the 2lb range. will have to go back and try a different spot. tight lines fella's. hope you can enjoy our day as much as we did.
