Question about Joslin...derbies in general
« on: Feb 17, 2010, 07:38 AM »
Although we ice fish quite a bit this will be our first derby and we had a couple questions. How does it start, does everybody go onto the ice at the same time or do you set up early? Is it catch and release?
Is there a thread that explains this?
Sorry for my ignorance and Thanks for any help.

Generally everybody does not walk on the ice at the same time..some people go really early for instance if the derby starts at 7 I go in at about 430 so I can get the spot I want... some people if they have kids show up to the derby a little bit latter... you may do whatever you want to do with the fish...if you think it is big enough to place you would call the people at the check in stations or ride it over there if you have a atv..hhhope this helps

Fish will be weighed by three of us "weighmasters" cruising the ice on ATV's with scales and clipboards....makes for nice catch and release...just wave us down....we will make ourselves known....Me, Porter, and john.....

Like Karl said - 3 weighmasters on the big pond (Long Pond) and 1 weighmaster on the small pond on the other side of the street of Rte 122. Also.. many guys lay their tilts on the ice pre-tourney start. But NO DRILLING HOLES until 7am. Thanks guys!

2 questions...

first, will you guys have two-ways or something for weigh-in or leader board updates?

and, second, can we spud holes before 7?  I'm guessing no, but it's worth a shot...

I assumed they would have 2 ways for the leader board and genral coumincation I hope so I had to dig through all my deer hunting gear to find them..put them on the charger I have a second radio if anyone needs it
catching a fish while fishing is similar to making a baby during sex if it doesn't happen you still had a Darn good time

Thanks for the help guys ;D  1) no holes drilled or chipped or any other way before 7am!  2) we will have two way radios to communicate to all anglers with one as to leaderboard, hourly raffle winners, etc. Gonna be a blast!

We're planning it now.  We made a last minute change of plans to go.  We've got bait, map directions, and gear rigged already.  Just need to load the truck and set the alarm.

Looking forward to meeting and joining more of the crazy fanatics on this site and having some fun.  We may even wind up catching some fish!   :o
