Lake Independence report/conditions?
« on: Mar 17, 2010, 11:50 AM »
I have this sunday off and I might give Lake Independence a try but I'm not sure how the ice is looking. Sounded like perch fishing was slow out there this year but does anyone have a recent report? We've had good luck out there in the past at this time of year but who knows with this crazy weather.

Browning, no idea what the conditions are on INDI right now but when we fished it this year didnt have any luck with the perch. Got lots of small eyes when targeting perch and a few legal ones, alot more eyes than perch this year we did good on perch last season and not so good on eyes, dont know whats up with that. The insight I can offer is when we fished Fanny Hooe in the keweenaw last weekend we slammed the perch. Caught forty biggest was 16 in. caught 4 over 12 and kept 13 total nothing smaller than 10. All except one we caught were females and all were full of eggs. Spawning should be starting soon and I think they were gearing up,,,all the fish we caught seemed to be concentrated on breaks and once we got on em we caught fish really consistently.

some big perch for sure! from what I've heard everyone had a slow year perch fishing on indy. Not sure where I'll fish this weekend but we were out today and the ice was still holding up pretty solid.
