What I do is drill a hole in the ice upwind of where I want the shack .  Then tie a 2' piece of re-steel (or ice skimmer) to the shack tow rope, put it through the hole and cinch it up.  You could also use your auger drilled and left in the ice as a post.

Good luck,  Scott

If it's a hub style pop up, get four screw in ice anchors and four tie down straps- preferably the cam style, not ratchet.  Screw in one anchor on the upwind side, pop up shack and tie off from the hub to the anchor.  Repeat on all four sides.

If it's a flip over, you could probably do the same thing for the first anchor- obviously you'd need to find a tie off point on the portable, and then use the other anchors right through the floor at the corners (at least the ones I've seen have holes in the floor for anchors)

Can I use a screw gun to screw these in? I thought about getting some 3/8X4"  lag bolts with washers.

                         Thanks

Thats what I did with a frabil portable on Sebago .  Take a cordless drill and go down through the bottom of the shack and into the ice . We used 4 inch long sheetrock type screws with big fender washers .  It held in there all weekend

Leave it folded up and at home.
When I used my shappel it went down the lake more then once.
I used to tie it up to a jet sled or to the auger.....
The ideas posted are great..wished I thought of these..

I would just have an old rope tied off to your shelter and pick up a stick off the ground, tie it to the middle of the stick, put it down the hole and turn it sideways...  Cheap and easy!!

Used my Shappel 4000 for the past five years almost every ice-fishing weekend.  Here's how I anchor her securely.

     1.  I drill my holes
     2.  I take 2 foot stakes with two foot ropes tied through or to the stakes and shove them down the hole so the stakes lie flat against the underside of the ice.  If the ice is thick push the stakes down with your skimmer or ice chisel.
     3.  Attach a strap to each of the ropes (which are attached to the stakes underneath the ice) prior to pushing the stakes down the hole or afterwards, your preference  and tighten.  Viola`  about as secure as you can get.

If you typically fish where the ice is thicker just adjust the length of your ropes attached to the stakes.  End of the day, tap them with your skimmer or ice chisel and they pop right back up to the surface.  Quick and easy.  Haven't found a better or more secure way since having the Shappel.
Good luck!

There is not much to tie to on the outside of the S4000 I have.

I use ice climbers, ice screws for my shack, they are hollow core threaded and come out easily at the end of the day.  Just wind them in and tie off a rope to each corner of the shack.  They require no tools for screwing them in or taking them out and no holes to be drilled near your shack.  You can buy them used at IME international mountain equipment in North Conway NH,   they go for 10-30$ a piece used, new they run $40-100.  Sounds like you still need to drill and attach some sort of webbing or strap loop to each corner to attach to.

i all so use the ice climbing screw in hollow anchors.they have a point of attatchment on them to hook a ratchet strap. i allways cross the straps so they make an x and attatch one forward and one aft.two is plenty.when no one is in the portable and the wind really blows the portable may bounce up and down but stays there. good luck 04478.

I have had a 3000 for a few years now.  I have done some of the earlier suggestions like the tow rope around an auger drilled into the ice. Usually when there isn't any snow.  If there is snow, I try to bank it around the bottom (it doesn't take much).  If it's really cold,  I wet the snow with water from a drilled hole.  It will freeze enough to help hold but will still allow you to free up the shack when it's time to go.  I use a 5 gallon bucket for bait.  I make sure it is full and leave it in the shack for weight.  I use a smaller lighter container to take bait around from hole to hole.  I also might throw as much of my gear in there as I can get, if it's windy.  Anything that might help hold her down.

The lag screw and washer trick  sounds good.  I might try that on bare ice or as a back up on a big trip up north.

I just use the screw in ones and place them right next to the outside of the floor. Then I  screw it down and aligned the t handle to overlap the plastic floor and snug it up.

run a tie down in between the holes. Then buy two ice anchors put one in each hole and get the tie down tight

like Gas blaster allready said, I drill holes through the plastic floor and use a cordless drill and Lag screws, works great. The only difference is I use 6" risser lags, they have a star head with a built in washer. Only thing is don't forget you put them in and try to tow it off with your snowmobile.

With my DX3000 I drilled 1/4" holes through the floor at the corners, and then strung some heavy nylon rope loops through the holes.  Tied the knots on the inside AFTER slipping the rope ends through a fender washer.
When setting up, I laid the DX on the ground, drove ice anchors into the ice through the loops
(with some tension) AND THEN folded up the inside supports.  Take down in reverse order--remove the ice anchors after you have flattened the shelter.

I assume you were referring to the DX type of shelter...
