Doe anyone really know the true cause. Was it a cannon? Did someones shack blow up? whats the real story there has been conflicting reports. I saw the cloud of smoke and heard the very loud explosion.

There was a guy on a green articat sled setting off m80s or something from what i saw nothing blew up

I dont believe that was an M80 with that amount of smoke and volume level.

Saw a guy on a sled scream by and either drop the m-80 or pipe bomb of the sled and keep going. What a tool.

The first one that happened was right beside some person cross country skiing.....

I heard the first one out toward the middle.... Freakin huge ball of smoke and we all felt the sound come right up through our legs....

We did have a few flags after the explosion though

.....

I thought that it may have been a one hour warning from the tourney organizers but that idea is blown right off the ice I guess.....

I meant to excuse myself for that explosion at the awards ceremony. Must have been from the deer sausage, cabbage and sauerkraut pierogies I ate for lunch.

I have a feeling it may have been a couple locals playing with a blackpowder cannon. Just a guess; I wasn't there. I do know a few characters from that neck of the woods.

Weren't there any wardens at this event? Seems like every time I read something on these big tourneys there's some idiot(s) doing obnoxious things but no mention of any enforcement

I saw two explosions, the one in the middle of the lake and there was one closer to a group of people south of me.

There's no way wardens would waste their time at Sabattus.... probably was set off by the same group that hangs out at Mixer's

FYI YES There were 2 wardens and i don't think it's fair to say " these Big Derby's " because you are associating the Derby with completely random people making bad decisions

I talked to the wardens and they were doing the best they could unfortunately something like 27 people decided to come to a " Big Derby " with and unregistered atv or sled so that keep them busy most of the day and 1 guy that left his traps for 30mins right in front of the warden

i saw the wardens hanging around one spot for a looong time, then the pick up drove up. guess i know what they were discussing now.and i saw the clipboard being passed around. ouch

i know the guy who left his traps, it cost him $35.. i figured it would have been more than that..

The guy with the unattended traps was out in front of my buddy house. When my buddy and a friend went out to drill some holes, this guy told him that the area was saved for his wife and friends that would be coming later in the day to fish. He informed the guy that he should be able to fish out in front of his own house. The guy didn't seem to happy when they drill their holes. Guess his luck wasn't to good that day.
