Question about nils 6" drill adapter
« on: Jan 18, 2010, 02:38 PM »
I've looked and searched but i didnt find where anyone had a specific answer as to where i might be able to find a power drill adapter for the nils 6" hand auger. If anyone has found where to get one @ or even an idea that i could take to the metal shop that would be great.. Thanks... ;D

does it have the same bolt hole a thread as the Mora and Lazers do?  I have never seen a nils.  I  just called and left them a message to see if will fit your nils or if they plan to make one for the nils.

I'll keep checking back with them.. I'm debating whether or not to get an adapter to start out or just get a gas powered auger. money wise i'm leaning towards the adapter but i could drill all the holes i wanted with a power auger.. Thanks for the help!!!

well I speak from experince unless you want to drill over 60 holes in a outing. The drill adapter is the way to go.  It is much lighter. No gas to spill.  Just take care of your batteries and your good.  Im going fishing this comming weekend.  Im thinking of taking a video of my 6 year old son drilling the holes.

Almost everytime I use it some guy will come over and ask about it.  I let them try it. Most guys already have a drill. I have used a 12volt drill and I drilled a bunch of holes with it.  It worked fine but I like my 18V drill better. Just preference.

I Agree! My cordless weighs in @ 10 lbs, so it's easy to transport, every pound counts in my book. I have my holes drilled and clean before most gas augers are running, plus, I haven't worked up a sweat using my hand auger so I stay warmer.

I have a 18V Rigid Cordless Drill.  I use it with a 5 inch Lazer Auger.  I also have a 12V Rigid that I use with it if I forget the 18V in the work van at the shop.  I prefer the 18V

Send me ([email protected]) your e-mail address and I'll forward a pdf drawing of a adapter for the Nils and you can have someone make one.
I'm not fond of going to photo-bucket and then going public with the drawing.
I've made and used this one and also one for the strikemaster.

Prolly the king of the hill is the Bosch Brute Litheon 36Volt drill.  I did 28 holes through 8"-10" of ice, 7" Strikemaster Lazer,
last Friday and Saturday. I ran out of gas but the drill battery was still good.

I've used the Dewalt and Porter Cable 18V cordless and they both seem to work about the same from what I could tell. You need to set the selector switch for low speed/high torque. A good 18V will turn a 6", but that's a lot of drill for a cordless. A 5" auger is cutting a lot less area and you will get over 2X as many holes (about 50ish in 16" ice with the 5" and 20ish with the 6") per battery. I own both the 6" and 5" Mora augers and I've drilled a lot of holes.
