I got a 1972 polaris trail breaker 250cc I got it 4 years ago and it has run great since i got it and replaced the intake valve. I need a new battery now because of a bad tree limb >:( that smashed the original one from 1972 lol

I have an '07 Arctic Cat 700 EFI and it has taken where I want to go with 1200 miles no issues. Cat now has what sounds like it meets all your criteria in a 550 H1, have a look !

This is what I have and it works for me.  I would recommend you get what you like, there are a lot of good machines on the market and just like anything else they all have there pro's and con's.  If you plan on using it for ice fishing don't go without a 4x4 and at least 400cc.  Get  a copy of ATV or similar magazine and check out the comparisons.    This is just my opinion,,,,,,,,,,,,

lostboy, Did you buy a machine yet?

I read you origninal post. Ihave a 2005 kawasaki praire 700. Its is carbed not efi. I can start it manually fairly easily most times. You just have to find the sweet spot where to pistons will move easily. Also, I bought my machin in the winter of 07. It is an 05 but it was repoed by kawasaki from a dealership that went under. Than another dealer bought it from kaw than I bought it from that dealer. It was an 07 brand new still in the crate. 5000 dollars for a 700 cc 4x4 brand new with a winch too.

I love honda generators, snowblowers, lawnmowers, ect but i opted to stay away from their ATVs as they dont have a true 4 wheel drive system. It is a limited slip set up and you dont ever have true 4x4....All the other manufactures had true 4x4 capabilities. So it was easy to knock honda off my list. That was in 2007 not sure if they ever got their act together and offered a true 4x4 system....?

I have a 2005 yamaha kodiak 400 4x4 independent rear suspension with automatic transmission and it has been great.  It has a lot of power and torque for a 400 and is fairly light.  we bought it 3 years ago and we have never had to do any maintenance to it besides change the oil and buy new tires because I wore them out riding on asphalt.  It does have a backup pull start.  As far as power goes if you want to know that, it has pulled a polaris ranger 700 out before.  it has been a great atv.  hope this helps.

04 Arctic Cat 400 cc,No trouble at all,always starts,takes me anywhere,a powerful workhorse,oil and fan cooled,and a pull starter if needed,and it works,over 1500 miles and still purrs,a bought a new battery last year,that's it.

I've got a 1985 Hond big red 200 w/ hi/lo and reverse. this thing is a friggin tank. big ballon tires. it hauls or 600+ lb spearing shack through 8-10 inches with no prob. But dependability get a honda. This three wheeler starts better and runs better than both my neighbors yamahas and can-ams. Most new quads have a compression release for the pull starter so you dont rip your damn arm out of the socket.

Just sold my 91 polaris trail boss 250 4x4 to my bro. still have my 94 sportsman 400 4x4. They both run like new, and no cold weather problems.

polaris sportsman is something you can't go wrong with. get it set up how you want i got a winch on the front for the plow in the winter. also i put a hitch on the back and pull my trailer with the shack and augar in it works great and never get stuck. Also is very easy and comftable to ride any time of year
good luck with the buy
