Pleasant Lake Update... (Photos Added)
« on: Dec 21, 2009, 06:20 PM »
Hi,

I cut my first holes of the year today.  I went to Pleasant Lake (Deerfield).  I fished just by the boat landing as most people do.  There is 3.5-4" of ice out about 200 feet or so (as far as i dared to venture).  The fishing was fast and furious...lots of flags, landed lots (around 25) of small 8-10" Brook Trout.(Let them all go)  I only fished about 4 hours from 10 - 2PM.  I was informed that it was just stocked very recently with these smallish brook trout.  I never caught any other species of fish.  It seemed like they would bite anything you could throw at them, since they are fresh out the hatchery.  After the first few trout, the thrill was gone and was waiting for some of those big boys that some of you have been catching at Lake X.  It was a good opening day.  I'm going off to find some husky trout tomorrow at Lake Z.  Also there was a Bald Eagle that came within 50 feet of me.

Sounds like you had a good day. Did they hit on a variety of bait or were they strictly after shiners?

They were hitting night crawlers, shiners, red/pink/orange salmon eggs.  Probably best luck with crawlers.

Hey Steve,

Good to see you got out....The brookies you're talking about got stocked about 3 weeks ago...They were all small between 6-10" and they really haven't moved from the boat launch...even with the new work the state has been doing at the culvert/outlet there the past week...On the average Pleasant is decent for your average stock size (10-14") trout....mostly rainbows with the occasional brown....

Funny thing....My wife always asks me why I always have to drive all over to other lakes when I have a trout place so close to home? I have to explain everytime that Pleasant is ok for the stockies but, I'm after the BIGGUNS, thats why I have have to drive all over the place ;D .....There is the occasional decent Brown caught here, but they are very few and far between...

It's been awhile since I've caught a Big Bow...I volunteered with NH F&G couple months ago...

I'll give you a hint. Let me just say, I will be fishing in the Manchester area a few times this winter once its safe..That's all I can say...
(Not Pleasant) Send me a PM... ;)
