Help! In need of a carb for a tecumseh tc engine.
« on: Oct 21, 2009, 04:33 PM »
Hi All,
I am new to posting, but have been lurking for quite a while.  Well, I am now in need of some help.  I recently aquired an older eskimo auger that has the tc200 engine on it.  The problem is the carb is missing.  I have searched the site here and contacted some of the places listed (drock, etc) but to no avail.  I am hoping someone has a carb from a non functional auger they wouldn't mind parting with.  The carb in question is a walbro wta-4b (aka wta-4-1).

I am also open to trying another carb if anyone knows what might fit.  It sounds like this walbro was placed on many of the older augers that ran the tc200 or tc300 tecumseh motors (jiffy, lazer and so on) at least that is what I was told.

I hate to junk the auger because it is in good shape, the previous owner had removed the carb for cleaning and lost it.  I also don't want to put a ton of money into it (I hear these older eskimos aren't worth much even when running).

Anyway, thanks in advance for any info or help I can get getting one of these.

PigPen.

Checked Google and found these:

http://www.m-and-d.com/WL-WTA-4B.html

Google had several more listed.  Shouldn't be too difficult to aquire one.

Thanks for the quick response, Jeff.  I tried ordering the one from m-and-d, its listed, but not available.  Looks like the other one is a private party.  I didn't really want to drop $70 on this, but I may have too.  I found a couple of other sites earlier that did the same thing, I went through the check out process and then they called back saying they don't have any.

Thanks again.

Bummer.  I would keep my eyes on eBay.  Maybe someone here has one laying around or knows of one someplace.

Sorry I couldn't help.

That looks like the same body as the new style WT and WA walbro carburetors. If your motor is a 35cc or smaller you should be able to get a WT-257 carb or WT-813 to work for you. You may have to move the linkage and re route the fuel lines. The WT-257 is a very popular carburetor and can be gotten new dirt cheap.

I have a WT-257 (for my rc motor) if you need any measurements to see if it will bolt up to your intake on your motor. I got mine here. http://www.gizmomotors.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage_images.tpl&product_id=193&category_id=16&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=56

If I can't come up with a used one that will bolt right up, I may go the route of the 257.  I wouldn't have a problem rigging something up for the throttle, my big concern is the governer linkage.  Although if a guy was carefull not to overrev the engine, I could probably eliminate that all together.

It amazes me that for how many augers ran that tucemseh engine that its that hard to find a parts machine.

The search continues....

Thank you guys for the advice.

You can limit the rpm some by fattening up the high end needle or put on a manual throttle stop. I wouldn't worry too much about wot rpm, the gearbox and drill will put a lot of load on the motor.

the problem that may exist is that your carb is angled to the left as it bolts to the block, and the governor air vane is actually attatched to the engine base itself.  all the "newer" models the carb mount is angled to the right and the air vane is connected directly to the carb itself.  i have this problem here in the shop and am trying to find a practical solution.

thanks for the tip mech12.  I have found a couple of the wta-4b carbs that I am looking for, the problem is everyone wants 65 to 75 bucks.  I found a complete running auger for 50, but it dosen't make sense to part out a working auger and then be in the same position.  I am not in a huge hurry as I have another auger, but this one sure is in nice shape and is very light.  Its also a 7" that would be nice for the panfish....

I am still looking, so if anyone has an auger with a bad engine or gear box that can help me out, I would be most appreciative.
