Sometimes a matter of opinion, but, in my opinion, ice lines are more flexible with less memory. I use Berkely.

I could not find any difference in P-line 3# Floroclear and there 3# Floroice except for the price. The Floroclear is $7.99 for 300yds and the Floroice is $4.99 for 100 yds.  I fished the Floroclear last year and it was excellent.  So I ordered 4 300yd spools and they came UPS today.  Time to start putting on new line.  Yeah!!!  f-n-f

#4 Berkley crystal has the same diameter as #1 of the average monofilament.  Also I heard brand new Berkley fireline crystal #2 can hold a #5 weight under the bend of a rod.  Hope that helps ;D

not exactly your qt but anybody know the difference between the following? Other than Micro Ice only comes in a Pony spool, great marketing by Berkley.  No difference at all

I don't think the fused Crystal comes in the lb. rating lower than 6 lb.  I wish they made 1 lb. in 125 YRD spools.

Yep, I tested 2# Fireline Crystal and I lifted a 5# free weight on my ice rod.  No more worries about lifting any crappies I catch, out of the hole.  ;D

Sometimes you can't find the smaller test# you want in the regular filler spool and that ice line has it.

I would love to have 2# or 3# Fireline Crystal with 125 yds.  I would also love to get 3# Gamma ESP Ice in a 125 yd pony spool but it only comes in a 50 yd spool...-> more money.

For some lines, it may be the same line, just repackaged.  For others, it's two different line types.

I think rg, jeff, and zack all hit the nail on the head...no difference other then limpness, packaging, and available strengths.
Just remember too, the Fireline is not a true braid, it is fused. That is a big difference when comparing lines.

Ice lines are going to remain more flexible in cold weather .  And some have a coating that prevents them from absorbing water .

I remember reading that off of some topic but I didn't remember which one.  Sorry kind of took the credit there for a little bit.

Funny thing about Fireline.  It's braided/spiral twined then fused...It's not a loose braid, totally unlike Fireline Braid.

A braid line like Sufix Ice Magic and Sufix Performance Braid, only appears to have different colors.  I've used both and it appears that Sufix Ice Magic does a little better for water repellent property.  Maybe it's just a line conditioner additive they put in.

I was on the Berkley fishing website (www.berkley-fishing.com) and there actually is FireLine Crystal in 2LB spools in the 125YRD lengths.  I'm not so sure about it in the 300YRD length but this does raise a few questions for me.  The pony spools do have micro ice on the front so I don't know if that line preforms better on ice by not freezing or what?  Does any one know the difference between the two?

I called Berkley before i made the post, the clerk on the phone could not find a difference other than packaging only.  I was hoping some type of coating on the Micro Ice or something, but nothing that the rep could find.  I'd like to ask somebody higher up at Berkley to verify.

2# Fireline Crystal is avail in 125 yds filler spool!  That must be new.  I've never seen it with my own eyes before.   :o  Ah well, now I'll just have to be on the look out for it.  After I've got Stren Microfuse 2# spools already.

I vaguely remember someone at a Ice fishing show said the Micro Ice version for Fireline Original has a special coating treatment to help repel water.  That was before Firelline Crystal was available and I'd just assume that Micro Ice Crystal would be just the same...

The mind will believe what it wants to believe...Even hearsay can become truth.

I don't know if there's any truth to that.  All I know is that after one trip with Micro Ice Fireline Original it didn't matter.  If I needed to use 4# test, I just get the 125 yds filler spool.  Just my preference to not splice together two lines for deep lake in excess of 150 ft.  I don't want to get spooled...

It's almost kind of NOT funny how the price on that has gone up just right before ice season...

The Fireline Braid didn't go up in price at all...

I would have bought more for my poles this year, but I too saw only 50yds on the spool and twice the price of trilene micro ice (110yd spools). So I only spooled 1 pole with 6lb. crystal and the rest with ice mono. Smitty
