saratoga lake help
« on: Dec 19, 2013, 09:35 PM »
I have good access to the lake inlaws live on manning cove rd. I have been out and tried for walleye a bunch of times now and always end up skunked. Always fish lake George for lakers and always do good but just can not seem to catch a walleye for the life of me. Need help don't even know where to start now.

a local once told me years ago to fish around snake hill point, the details other than that are very foggy because that same local kept us out drinking all night(that must have been his plan so we didn't find his secret spot)...

it was tough pulling hungover or not(we were) in deep snow though and we couldn't make it out that far.

Had a wonderful time at the local pub, but I haven't been back since.

Hope that helps put you in the right direction.

Fished Saratoga some 15years, had a boat at Point Breeze. Fished what we called the Triangle.  16ft of water to 25ft of water.  From Snake Hill to China Town to Manning Cove back to Snake Hill.  Ice fished the same triangle. Done well, but you have to be Mobile.

The walleye in Saratoga are one of those situations where 1% of the fisherman catch 99% of the fish.  Unfortunately, I am not a 1 %er either.  I've caught a few though and can tell you that I've had my best luck catching walleye at night from dark to about two hours after dark and have never caught one during the day.

I'm no pro by any means-but i do know that almost all the Walleye I have caught have been at night in shallow water (10-15 ft) and only 1 was caught in the middle of the day jigging in 35ft.

Wish I had some Walleye lakes closer to home!!!!!!!

Guy at toga tackle said there was anywhere from 2-7 inches of ice. Few people off of Fitch road. Lake lonely has good ice. Was there today. 7inches. Decent bite. Good luck

It may have a few inches but it's mostly white ice.  I  wouldn't go to toga if you're not familiar with it.  It has its fair share of springs.  Even fish creek can be dangerous with the docks and the bridge.  Wait a week for the ice to thicken.  Lonely is good thoug.

Sounds like you weren't "Lonely" at all.

I drove past the south end of Toga just a little while ago and there were a  few guys out there (but no too far out there).  Sign at Di'Donna's  said 7 bucks for access in case anybody needs to know.

Mid lake looks like it broke up and refroze just recently.
