Gull Lake Ice Update
« on: Feb 27, 2009, 11:42 AM »
Just got back from checking the ice and it is still a solid 7" out from the launch.  Baseline had open water 5-6 feet out to the ice but it was only a couple inches deep.  Didn't;t go on the ice there as I was in tennis shoes.  I met DGB out there and he was not catching much.  Once he told me who he was I backed away as I was a little afraid of a lightning strike. ;)  He was thinking of going home to get the quad and doing a little exploring.  I would have to say that there isn't any concern for the outing at this point.  Good luck everyone.

All the reports so far say we are still on. Everyone says bring your ice cleats. It's slick.

Nice meetng you eyecatcher.....met vex and Caddyschack also. You all survived standing next to me lol. Came out to check the ice and see if I could catch a perch or to and I ended up catching a couple dinks and a couple of smelt Through one down on a tip-up and nothing. Had a lot of some sort of lookers though on the vex but they would just look and leave.Came home for a bite and get the quad. I am really surprised how good the ice is. Should tighten up real well tonight. Vex should be posting a pic with the tape measurer in my hole that read 9 inches. See you all tomorrow....bring your cleats, slick as a ice skating rink.

Yeah...nice meetin' ya dgb...just missed ya' Vex but, dgb  said you had a slide rule and an accoutants calculator when u were measuring the ice...nice lookin' out... LOL...Gotta agree, ice is solid and no water on top so quads and sleds should have no problem but it is slick and cleats will be a plus. Asked dgb if he wanted to go have a pre-GLG beer at the Stagecoach but was more interested in getting a little pre-fishin' in ;) See ya all tomorrow. Oh, by the way fishhead, I'm a member of the UCC and get their newsletter and see nothing of there of a gathering in your area...hmmmm...sounds a little "fishy" ;D

were is the pic?...lol Guys not going to need a pic on ice thickness.  6-8" of black ice still with 10 degrees for a low tonight.  Be plenty of ice for walking....or quads.  Anyone disagree post it now or forever hold your piece.

just got off the phone with dgb and he says the lake is a popin' and snaping!  So like I said it is good, dgb just ran his quad half way down the length of the lake tonight.  SO......the light is greeen for quads also. Any other questions guys?

oh ya don't forget $5 for parking at praireville launch.  And $5 for raffle...least I think that is what it is..MUD can you verify how much for raffle, and what is up for raffle?

I haven't felt this good about a fishing trip in a while.  The ice is shaping up...and the forcast for the next few days should be pretty good for ice fishing.  Barometer is spiking to the high side right now though.  I came to Gull for the fishing but will mostly be BSing and having a good time ........just like here but no MODS to censor me!
