Northern lake champlain ice conditions
« on: Feb 12, 2009, 07:38 PM »
The ice is holding up with 15 plus inches. snow is all melted. however the boat launches are in very bad condition. stay away from areas that have been previously plowed. 2 plus feet of water in some areas. Tabors Pt launch is really bad. dillenbech i heard is also bad. areas that have not been plowed are in good shape still.

Same conditions here on the Alburgh Passage side of North Hero:  snow's all gone and the areas previously plowed are the worst.  I travel to one side or the other of the "road" and do well getting out to the shantys.

Pike don't seem to be as affected as walleyes to the runoff - still good numbers and sizes of fish coming thru the hole.

@duck
Pike:
Search on here or on google for quick strike rigs.  (assemble it yourself)

Or just put a big treble or 4/0 hook on your tip-up with a steel leader and put a 5-8" shiner on there.  Put it down near the bottom or on the bottom for dead bait.

I usually fish in about 10-12' of water near weeds for pike.
