sonars or cicadas for waldos

i fish spoons and jiggin' raps for wally's but hear about bladebaits every once in a while. do you guys ever try them? would you tip it, i think this would kill the action, let me know. interested in others experiences w/ em

One year on oneida thru the ice I could'nt do anything wrong with sonars.(white/chartruse) Now I just use them once in a while when spoons/raps are'nt working. One thing there good for is attracting perch (midday) to your bobber or dead stick pole.

Sad part with sonars or bass pro xp blade baits is that most fishermen snag with them on Oneida Lake.

That's funny you should say that, when I'm at snybal's or the canal all the guys around me are snagging the heck out of them. But I rairly ever foul hook any and my name has been snagger my whole life. Usually it's when the water has gotten real cold.

i fish onieda when i can and live in rochester so i dont know. i have heard a few times that people snag w/ them. is this true? seems like it would be tough to do? i dont know though. I was seeing if they ate the bladebaits. Thanks for the bass pro pointer. i think i will add one or two of them to break out when i not doin' em. do you work them w/ big rips and flutters or try to be more gentle and attempt to swim them? you guys rock for giving me some info!

Rip them up just fast enough to feel a good "Vrripp" vibration. Drop them on a slow controlled drop back- no slack in the line. Most hits will happen near the bottom of the drop, but be ready for a fast hookset if it goes slack on the drop. Fish On! Vary your depth- Don't be afraid to fish them 4-6' up off bottom for awhile then back so the bait just brushes bottom at the bottom of the drop. Tipping them with bait kills the action of the bait but an attractant can help at times.

The cicada works pretty good tipped with a minnow tail but it does screw up the action.the walleyes don't seem to mind.as for the snaggers on oneida they pour lead in a spoon and cut of the weed gaurd.thats what Ive seen them use.If I have to snag em I'de rather just buy fish.

Ths is called a sink trap lure. One side is brass the other side is chrome plated. You solder a large hook to it and vertical jig with it or should I say SNAG. Sad to say another invention by the Oneida Lake Old Timers who keep too many walleyes.

I see the most foul hooked walleye when the water get's cold. The fish are'nt as active, they come to look, then you do your next rip and zingo there hooked in the neck. I got to admitt a good way to grab a couple extra waldo's late in the fall. When the water get's that cold I usually switch to a flatheaded bucktail tipped with half a crawler. Does oneida really half enough walleyes in it these days to snag them in any numbers through the ice.
