fishing thoughts

this is kind of a no brainer question. with the exception of some who go out fishing and have to go to work the same day, can anyone honestly say they have thoughts about work???? ice fishing in particular is one of the most relaxing things you can do after you're set up for the day. no wonder its addictive. grumpy

No way, I never think about work while ice fishing. Sometimes I think about the things around the house that I haven't done and will catch hell for when my wife finds out I went fishing rather than getting things done, but those thoughts are brief and usually gone after the first flag.

I agree with the fact that ice fishing is about as relaxing as they come, however.... if it's slow fishing, or if I have a particularly nasty problem at work, I'll sometimes think about work. In fact, I have solved a few of these problems while fishing, I think it clears the head and lets your analytical processes work a little better. Hmmmmm... maybe I could use that as a new excuse?  "Honey, I have this truck at work that the wipers come on every time you step on the brake pedal, but only if the radio is on AM and there is someone sitting in the passenger seat with their seat belt unbuckled. I better go out fishing and figure it out."  ::)

Last time I got to go ice fishing and stay overnight we fished 2 days and stayed 2 nights. I had a messy real estate transaction  in progress with a lot of legal details. I did not think of the transaction or any of the people involved for 2.5 days!

I love this sport  :)

The real question for me is how much do you think about icefishing while at work????  This internet connection at the office makes it difficult to not especially when iceshanty.com is only a "favorites" click away and is not screened for no access by our firewall like many undersirable websites the company would not want you on.

There's a bunch of us that go for a 5 day fishing trip up north every year. When I'm up there I'm in a whole other world. You get up in the morning just as the sun is coming up and walk out on to that lake, there's not a sole out there, no sound at all. Can't beat it. We talk about it all year long. The hardest day of the year is the day we have to pack up and come home.

A couple of years ago my boss paid for a 2 day 3 night trip to LOW.  It was our Christmas bonus.  I thought about work breifly the first day.  That night any thoughts of work were drowned out thanks to barley pop, and my old friend Jack Daniels.  The second day I didn't think about work at all.  On the way home I dreaded going back home to work.  We didn't catch many Walleyes, but it was just being out on the ice...being one with nature again that is the best feeling in the world.  ( I hope my wife doesn't read this or I will be on "drydock" for a while) ;D

AMEN High Tide!!  In hindsight, I probably didn't think about work as much when I used to work for "the man", but now that I AM "the man" it seems I do it more. I do a lot of my best thinking on the water, or ice, be it work, relationships, the state of the union, whatever. Seems whever two or more of us go out fishing, talk turns to how work is going, problems, good things, jokes at the office, etc. Out by myself, I do enjoy the wonderfulness of being outdoors, but again, I may be somewhat jaded by living in the middle of the woods and 22 feet from the edge of the lake. It's like the lake is always home, because it is, so maybe I don't appreciate the seclusion as much as some of you that have to travel a long ways to fish or that live in the city. That doesn't make me appreciate being away from work any less though!! Like they say, The worst day of fishing is better than the best day of work!!

Amen!!    However, with my job I have to always have access to my clients, so my cell goes with me onto the ice, Otherwise I'm stuck in my real office,  If the phone doesn't ring then I normally don't think about it unless a deal is falling apart and how to put it back together again.

I'm glad I am young. I do asphalt in the summer months, and collect unemployment in the winter. I know it can't go on like this forever, but for now, it is sure nice :) It's just when you don't have the money for bait and beer, it gets kinda crappy. That's why I am working now. Just wish I could sell pike and perch for a living!! Anyone want some fish? Will trade, bait or beer!! ;D :'(
You may call me crazy, but crazy catches fish!
