Need some advice on Silver
« on: Jan 29, 2010, 03:53 PM »
I just baught a bunch of suckers and found out my home lake is questionable as far as safe ice. This sucks because I was just starting to catch some nice pike. I have fished Silver lake in the past. Mostly for perch. This year I'm just into the pike. I don't jig, just set out the tip ups and wait. I am going to avoid the weekend crowds and fish next week. If I fish on the south end off the launch where should I go to find the right water? Is anyone else going to be out there on monday? If so I sure would like to fish with someone. Don't care about the perch, Don't care about the bluegills. Just after the pike. I love this site and it seems to be quite an addiction. On it everyday. I'm hoping someone can help an old guy out.

Guess I'll just figure it out for myself. Maybe I need to have 1000 posts before someone answers me.

If you are going off the state launch line yourself up and walk twards the last building on the opposite side (macks). Pretty much all the water you cross should vary depending on the weeds from 15 foot and less. I like to find the outside weed line and set up from there south into the shallows to cover different depths. I also like to set up either on the weed lines closer to shore or right out in the middle. Do you have any electronics? We found a spot out tward the center that dropped from 6 foot to almost 16 foot in the distance of about 7 paces and saw a bunch of pike chasing bluegills while sight fishing.

200 maybe 300 yards out, not quite halfway across. It was a weed pocket, if you kept going twards macks it shallowed up quick and the same if you turned south. I would head out 200 yards or so and drill north to south every 5 steps or so until you find the weed line.

Thank you very much irish jigger. I'll be out there on Mon morning. Maybe i'll see you. I'll be the grumpy old man in camo sitting on my sled. If I don't see you I'll give you a report. Once again thanks much.
Hey overly I was out on the pond this morning. Not bad, didn't fish it. I saw a hut out there and went out to chat. Have to be real careful. Slushy spots look questionable. Water is clouded up bad from the run off we had with the rain. I think I might fish it on wed. or thurs.  YEE CURSED PIKE!!!!

I'd be  in for Pike Patrol at the Usual Place if the slop is manageable Timber. Forecast looks good for Thurs. No bright sun. Have lots of OLB. Hairs Ear... aka Old Man 50,  where did you get the Libs (Suckers)?  We can move this off the board so the other guys don't get bounce back on off topic chat. Give it up on e comm  if you guys want to muster at TC on Thurs and deploy from there . Silver out for me unless the board lights up with amazing reports. Better Pike at the Usual Place any way!

i fished on silver lake over the weekend, we did reeeaally well on northers, not one fish was under 28in, we fished about 70 yeard from silver lake marine.  right behind the building. we were fishing is about 6-7 feet of water, the tip is for silver lake im my opinion is to drip the minnow all the way to the bottom and then lift it up about 3-4 feet. myself and 3 other guys i was fishing with got on the ice as soon as the sun came up and stayed untill sundown...we ended up with 11 fat northerns, iv never had so much fun!!
