I use 2 lb. Micro Ice as main line and tie on about 10 to 20 foot leader of 2 lb Seaguar Red Label Ice line. It's expensive but worth it.

Was using Trilene Micro Ice - good stuff, hard to cut with line nippers though. I spooled up a couple of my reels with P-Line this season, and so far I really like it.

1 pound Fireline crystal micro ice. Same diameter as 1/4 pound mono........ Works excellent with the smallest teardrop, no leader needed and one tip do NOT try to break it with your hands as it will cut you before you break it.......... Has landed several 4 to 5 pound walleye even though I was fishing perch at the time..........this stuff is stronger than any other line, doesn't kink, stays supple and one tip bring your glasses as it is super thin.....lol...

+1 Fireline Crystal Micro Ice 1lb
It's thinner than some of the thread my wife uses in sewing but extremely strong. You won't be able to grab on a break it like mono and it seems be sturdier on the hole edges than floro.
It does pick up water though, so it may freeze up on you in super cold, windy weather. I use it all day long in the shack no mater the temp outside and on sunny days without the shack. It's the ultimate for line shy gills and allows you to bring in those surprise fish.
One lake I fish is loaded with hammer handle pike and they strike anything, including spikes on teardrops. Their teeth rough up the fireline, but they don't cut it and it saves me at least $15 in lures on a good day of fishing.

I use fireline also for most circumstances. If the fish are finicky, I will use 2lb mono in shallow water only. The stretch makes mono worthless for deep fishing for perch, walleye, or any other fish over IMO 15 fow. I like the sensitivity of a real light fireline. I have broken brand new 2lb fighting slab bluegills so I steer away from it unless it is necessary to get them to bite.
